Fantasy Basketball Cheat Sheet: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for February 8

Julian Edlow gives his top lineup advice at each position for Monday’s fantasy basketball slate on DraftKings, which starts at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Here are some plays that jump out on DraftKings at each position for Monday’s main NBA slate, along with some strategy unique to this slate.

Point Guard

Worth Paying Up For: Victor Oladipo, Houston Rockets at Charlotte Hornets ($8,100)

With John Wall ruled out, ‘Dipo will primarily play on the ball against the Hornets, who are on the second leg of a back-to-back. Oladipo’s been struggling over the past three games, but could be helped into a bounce-back game, not only due to Wall’s absence but with Eric Gordon and Christian Wood also out. Only so many scoring options here.

Best Bang For Your Buck: Raul Neto, Washington Wizards at Chicago Bulls ($3,000)

There was hope that Russell Westbrook would actually play both ends of this back-to-back, but per usual, Russ was ultimately ruled out. That leaves Neto in his usual value spot, looking for 20-plus minutes, and potentially 20-plus DKFP. The difference this time around is that he’s the bare minimum price, after being as high as $4,600 in January. We’re getting a great discount here.

Shooting Guard

Worth Paying Up For: Bradley Beal, Washington Wizards at Chicago Bulls ($9,000)

There are multiple ways to react to the Westbrook news, and Neto and Beal can certainly be played together. Beal’s cheap after a couple of duds, but gets a favorable matchup against the Bulls, bringing obvious 60-plus DKFP upside into this contest.

Best Bang For Your Buck: Denzel Valentine, Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards ($4.800)

Chicago was already without Wendell Carter Jr. and Otto Porter Jr., and now Lauri Markkanen will be sidelined long-term. It’s opened up more minutes for Valentine, who after being nearly out of the rotation at times, played 37 minutes on Saturday. Scoring at least 25 DKFP in three straight with upside for 30-40 DKFP, Valentine is a safe play in a perfect matchup against the Wiz.

Small Forward

Worth Paying Up For: LeBron James, Los Angeles Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder ($10,500)

With Anthony Davis ruled out, it immediately becomes a LeBron night in a matchup he should be able to have his way with. LeBron is a little priced up, but he’s been playing well lately — going for 60-plus DKFP in two straight. While LBJ scored just 45.5 DKFP in the first matchup between these teams, he did so with AD in the lineup and while playing just 27 minutes. Assuming he has to play deeper into this contest, we’re left with a lot more chances for a big game.

Best Bang For Your Buck: Sterling Brown, Houston Rockets at Charlotte Hornets ($3,500)

Because of how thin Houston is, Brown’s going to have to see a pretty good role in the rotation. In the two games this month that Brown’s played at least 22 minutes, he’s scored 32 DKFP against OKC and 23.75 DKFP against Memphis.

Power Forward

Worth Paying Up For: Thaddeus Young, Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards ($6,700)

I already mentioned all the frontcourt players out for the Bulls, and it’s meant Young has stepped into a larger role. With Carter Jr. out, Young had already taken his game to another level, scoring over 34 DKFP in five straight. Young busted on Saturday but didn’t play as much in a blowout. Perfect bounce-back spot here against Washington.

Best Bang For Your Buck: Taurean Prince, Cleveland Cavaliers at Phoenix Suns ($4,300)

Prince regressed last game with Larry Nance Jr. back in the lineup, but now Nance has been ruled out again, this time long-term. In the previous three games, Price was averaging over 30 minutes per game and exceeded 30 DKFP in two of the contests. He should slot back into that same role against a thin Phoenix squad.

Worth Paying Up For: DeMarcus Cousins, Houston Rockets at Charlotte Hornets ($7,100)

With three of Houston’s top scorers ruled out, the Rockets have had no choice but to play Cousins more minutes. He played 30 minutes against the Spurs on Saturday and should be in line for a floor of 30 minutes again in this one. The last four times Boogie’s played 30 or more minutes, he’s scored 35 or more DKFP, including two games with 50-plus DKFP.

Best Bang For Your Buck: Montrezl Harrell, Los Angeles Lakers vs. Oklahoma City Thunder ($5,300)

Harrell’s been pretty hit-or-miss all season, but the boost with AD out of the lineup should be enough of a push to give Harrell a safer floor. He went for 30 DKFP in just 24 minutes the first time around in this matchup and has the potential for 30 minutes in this one.
