Sunday features a full slate of NBA action. There are two afternoon games to choose from, following by seven games starting at 6:30 p.m. ET or later.
Let’s dive into some of my favorite wagers on DraftKings Sportsbook for Sunday’s NBA slate.
San Antonio Spurs @ Philadelphia 76ers (-4.0):
The 76ers own the best record in the Eastern Conference at the moment, but they’ve undoubtedly been a bit lucky. They rank just eighth in the league in Net Rating, and they’ve outperformed their expected win total by around two wins.
Now, they’re going to have to survive for the next few weeks without Joel Embiid. That will be easier said than done. Embiid is one of the favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook to win the MVP award this season, and his impact on the 76ers has been absolutely massive. They’ve increased their Net Rating by 18.3 points per 100 possessions with Embiid on the floor this season, which puts him in the 99th percentile for qualified players (per Cleaning the Glass).
With Embiid off the court this season, the 76ers have actually been outscored by an average of 4.7 points per 100 possessions over a sample size of 829 minutes. Philly has also posted a record of just 2-5 with Embiid out of the lineup.
The Spurs are also dealing with a few absences at the moment – DeMar DeRozan (personal) and LaMarcus Aldridge (away from the team) are both out vs. the 76ers – but neither of those players has nearly the same impact as Embiid.
Toronto Raptors @ Chicago Bulls (-3.0):
The Raptors are coming off a loss yesterday vs. the Hornets, and they are expected to be shorthanded once again vs. the Bulls. Pascal Siakam and OG Anunoby have already been ruled out due to health protocols, and Fred VanVleet is not expected to suit up either. That is a ton of talent on the sidelines.
Unsurprisingly, the Raptors have struggled with all three players off the court this season. They’ve played 322 total minutes without Siakam, Anunoby and VanVleet, and they’ve been outscored by an average of 13.3 points per 100 possessions. That’s a dreadful mark.
The sharps definitely appear to be interested in Chicago at the current number. The Bulls have received 52% of the spread bets, but those bets have accounted for 79% of the spread dollars.
Los Angeles Clippers (-6.0) @ New Orleans Pelicans:
The Pelicans are an automatic over bet for me at the moment. They have been an offensive juggernaut over their past 19 games, averaging 122.6 points per 100 possessions and they’ve been nearly as bad on defense. They’ve allowed their opponents to rack up 120.6 points per 100 possessions, which would easily be the worst mark in the league if sustained over the full season.
The Clippers' offense should be able to absolutely shred the Pelicans in this matchup. They’ve been one of the best offensive units in the league this season, ranking second in offensive efficiency.
The over is another bet that appears to be a preferred target for the sharps tonight, with 81% of the dollars landing on that side.
