The NBA season is in full swing, and DraftKings has released a new Snake Draft fantasy format! Below, we break down strategy for Tuesday’s DraftKings NBA Snake slate.

Favorable Early Round Targets

LeBron James, F/C, Los Angeles Lakers
Snake Classic Rank: 3rd

James is ranked as the No. 3 player in the snake format, and he’s coming off the board with an ADP of 2.5. That said, I think he’s the clear top option on today’s slate.

LeBron hasn’t really been asked to carry a huge workload for the Lakers – even with Anthony Davis out of the lineup – but he’s still arguably the best player in the league. He put together a casual triple-double last night vs. the Warriors, finishing with 53.5 DKFP over just 30.5 minutes.

He takes the floor tonight in an elite spot vs. the Timberwolves. They’ve been poor defensively this season, ranking just 25th in defensive efficiency, so the Lakers should have no trouble racking up points.

Zion Williamson, F/C, New Orleans Pelicans
Snake Classic Rank: 14th

Tonight’s game between the Pelicans and Blazers should be a fantasy goldmine. Both teams are dreadful defensively and have the potential to put up huge performances on offense. The total currently sits at 240.5, and that honestly might be a conservative number. Overall, the Blazers own the top implied team total on the slate, and the Pelicans rank second.

That makes this a perfect bounce-back spot for Zion. He’s disappointed in three straight games, but all three of those games have turned into blowouts. That’s resulted in reduced minutes, so expect a better performance if he returns to his normal workload. Zion has averaged 1.36 DKFP per minute over the past month, and he carries arguably a top-five ceiling on today’s slate. That makes him a steal at the back end of the first round in 12-team leagues.

Early Round Player to Avoid

Jayson Tatum, F/C, Boston Celtics
Snake Classic Rank: 8th

Tatum is a solid player, but he seems a bit overpriced at the moment. Now that the team is back at full strength, he isn’t be asked to carry nearly the same offensive workload. His usage rate has declined from 32.0% during January to 30.9% in February and 27.2% in March. His efficiency is up this month – he’s shooting 51.4% from the field and 43.5% from 3-point range – but the reduced volume has made that pretty much a wash from a fantasy perspective.

Now, he gets an absolutely brutal matchup vs. the Jazz. Utah ranks third in the league in defensive efficiency, limiting opponents to an average of 106.3 points per 100 possessions. The Celtics' current implied team total of 112.25 is in line with their season average, but it’s well below the 125.0 points per game they’ve averaged over their past three. Tatum might still be able to get you 45 DKFP in this contest, but I don’t see a ton of ceiling for more than that.

Also, make sure to remove Joel Embiid (rank 1) and Davis (rank 11) from your draft boards. Embiid in particular still has an ADP of 6.9, and drafting him all but assures you’re not going to win your league.

Late Round Flyers

It should be noted that these players are ranked below the threshold of players that would be drafted. This section simply tries to exploit players who are in favorable matchups and are down the rank list.

Montrezl Harrell, F/C, Los Angeles Lakers
Snake Classic Rank: 43rd

Harrell is being drafted significantly above his rank – he owns an ADP of 32.1 – but that still puts him on the cusp of being undrafted in six-team leagues. That’s a mistake. Harrell has logged at least 32.1 minutes in two of his past three games, and he’s increased his production to 1.27 DKFP per minute over the past month. That gives him the potential to be one of the best pure values on the slate.

Eric Bledsoe, G, New Orleans Pelicans
Snake Classic Rank: 80th

All the other picks so far have been forwards, so let’s focus on a guard. Bledsoe is someone who stands out as undervalued for a lot of the same reasons as Zion. He simply hasn’t had to play many minutes recently with the Pelicans playing in a bunch of blowouts, but he should return to his normal workload if today’s game is more competitive. Bledsoe has not been as productive with the Pelicans on a per-minute basis as he has been in some of his previous destinations, but he should be able to eclipse 30 DKFP in an elite matchup.

Larry Nance Jr., F/C, Cleveland Cavaliers
Snake Classic Rank: 90th

Nance Jr. is still working his way back from an injury, which has made him an afterthought in Tuesday’s drafts. He doesn’t even have an ADP at this point, which means he’s going undrafted in virtually every league. I think that’s a mistake. Nance is the type of player who can average close to 1.00 DKFP per minute, so he should definitely improve upon his average of 0.57 DKFP per minute over his past two games. He should also earn more playing time as he gets further removed from his injury, and he could approach 30 minutes tonight vs. the Heat.
