Madden Stream Picks: Top DraftKings Fantasy Football DFS Targets, Values for March 28

Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays at each position for Sunday’s three-game Madden Stream DraftKings slate, which starts at 6:00 p.m. ET.

Amazingly, it has been a full year since the DraftKings Dream Stream started Madden sims. In celebration of the one-year mark of these sims, Sunday night’s slate features a massive Madden Stream $30K One Year Anniversary [$10K to 1st] contest that gives everyone a chance to turn a $15 entry into a top prize of $10,000. There are the usual six Madden 21 sims throughout the day, and the three-game featured classic slate is where that Anniversary contest focuses. That slate kicks off at 6:00 p.m. ET when the New England Patriots host the San Francisco 49ers. At 8:00 p.m. in primetime, it’s a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from virtual Raymond James Stadium. The final game of the day is a rematch of the very first sim from one year ago and will see the Houston Texans and Deshaun Watson ($7,300) visit Drew Brees ($6,000) and the New Orleans Saints for the first time since the upgrade to Madden 21.

As in all of these Madden 21 sims, it’s important to know that each roster is not impacted by COVID-19 opt-outs, injuries, suspensions or illness and that the highest-rated options have been placed at the top of the depth charts. The roster for each team includes all player movement that occurred prior to Week 1 of the 2020-21 season and uses the Madden 21 ratings from Week 1 of this season.

For more details, you can find the game settings, depth charts, abilities and X-factors for each team in Madden 21 along with the upcoming schedule on the Madden Stream info page. There were a few tweaks to the X-factors and Superstars in the latest December update, so be sure to check the depth charts of each team.

Check out the daily DraftKings Madden Stream contests lobby with paid contests for real cash prizes now available alongside free contests. Each simulation will be played out computer vs. computer via an online Madden Stream using Madden 21. In this format, you can enjoy watching the game stream on the DraftKings YouTube channel, the DK Live app (download here) or right here in this post.

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $7,800 — Mahomes has taken on the Bucs three times in these Madden 21 sims and has posted over 23 DKFP in each matchup with a high of 29.12 DKFP. Mahomes has averaged an impressive 25.0 DKFP in his 68 Madden 21 sims overall, throwing for 286.6 yards per sim and a total of 173 touchdowns to go with 14 rushing scores as well. Mahomes is the only QB with a perfect 99 overall rating in the Week 1 ratings used for these sims, and he has shown he is worth paying up for by producing great numbers in just about every matchup. While Deshaun Watson ($7,300) does come with a similarly high ceiling, Mahomes has been much more consistent and is the QB centerpiece to start your lineup with on this slate.

Other Option — Deshaun Watson ($7,300)

Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints vs. Houston Texans, $6,000 — The Texans have struggled in these Madden sims both in Madden 2020 and Madden 21, but they are usually highly entertaining due to their big-play potential and propensity to give up big plays when they’re on defense as well. Brees should be able to find holes to attack in their secondary and could put together a really nice game from his affordable $6K salary. While he hasn’t been on Mahomes’ level with 108 touchdowns and an average of 256.3 passing yards per sim, he has had a few games with huge production. He threw for four touchdowns and 376 yards against Mahomes on his way to 34.04 DKFP in one of those ceiling games and has been consistent with at least 16 DKFP in each of his past five sims. If you decide you have to pay up for top talent at skill positions, Brees is a solid counter-balance as an affordable QB who still comes with great upside in this favorable matchup.

Other Option — Cam Newton ($6,200)

Running Back

Raheem Mostert, San Francisco 49ers at New England Patriots, $7,800 — Since early in these sims, Mostert has been a fan favorite, even in Madden 2020 where he didn’t see the field very often (much to a certain announcer's chagrin). Since replacing Tevin Coleman ($3,000) as San Francisco’s every-down back in the Madden 21 upgrade, Mostert has become a legend on his own merit, scoring an impressive 60 touchdowns in 59 Madden 21 sims while averaging 83.4 rushing yards and 27.0 receiving yards on 3.1 catches per sim. San Francisco’s playbook and blocking scheme set Mostert up for success and a sizable workload in every sim. In his earlier Madden 21 matchup with New England, he had 13.7 DKFP with a touchdown and 77 yards on the ground. He didn’t catch a pass in that contest but usually adds good PPR production on top of his solid rushing numbers. He had 37.1 DKFP against the Vikings in his most recent sim and has that kind of slate-breaking upside in this rematch with New England.

Other Option — Alvin Kamara ($7,200)

LeSean McCoy, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Kansas City Chiefs, $4,500 — McCoy shares time in these sims with Leonard Fournette ($5,400), who is the Bucs’ RB1 while Shady serves as the third-down option. McCoy has been regularly involved, averaging 7.8 DKFP per sim and hauling in 3.1 receptions for 20.9 yards per contest. Since the Bucs typically have to air it out to keep up with the Chiefs, McCoy has produced in his previous matchups with Kansas City. McCoy has over 6.0 DKFP in each of their previous three meetings, averaging 11.4 DKFP per contest. If you have to go cheap at one of your RB spots a receiving back makes a lot of sense and McCoy has been the most reliable producer of the three timeshare options on this slate.

Other Options — James White ($4,700), Duke Johnson ($4,000)

Wide Receiver

Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $7,300 — Hill has been the best WR in Madden 21 and particularly dominated his three earlier matchups with the Bucs, totaling six touchdowns on 13 catches for 283 yards, which averages out to 27.8 DKFP per sim against Tampa. Hill is averaging 22.0 DKFP per contest overall on 6.2 catches for 91.4 yards per game. He has scored 60 touchdowns in 68 sims and should be in a good spot to find the end zone again in this rematch. He has a huge ratings advantage, especially with his Madden-best 99 speed rating, which gives him huge upside any time he makes a catch.

Other Option — Michael Thomas ($6,500), Chris Godwin ($5,900)

Emmanuel Sanders, New Orleans Saints vs. Houston Texans, $5,000 — Working out of the slot against the Houston secondary is typically a favorable matchup, and Sanders has been a strong option as the Saints’ WR2 in Madden 21. He has averaged 4.4 catches for 52.3 yards per sim while finding the end zone 14 times in 64 games. He has been steadily reliable lately with double-digit DKFP in five of his past six games and at least three catches in seven straight coming into this prime spot.

Demarcus Robinson, Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $4,400 — Robinson is the Chiefs’ WR3 in these sims but has shown a good connection with Mahomes and been able to maintain solid volume even with Hill and Travis Kelce ($6,000) piling up tons of targets. Robinson has double-digit DKFP in six of his past seven matchups and posted 12.8, 7.4 and 7.4 DKFP in his three prior meetings with the Bucs. He is just four catches shy of 200 in his Madden 21 sims and has averaged 3.0 catches for 43.6 yards per appearance.

Other Options — Julian Edelman ($5,500), Will Fuller V ($4,500), Scotty Miller ($4,000)

Tight End

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, $6,000 — Kelce has been by far the best TE in Madden 21 hauling in 41 touchdowns in his 68 sims with an average of 5.8 catches for 68.1 yards per contest. He had 19.5 DKFP in his most recent matchup with the Bucs following 11.7 and 5.6 DKFP in his first two meetings with Tampa. Of the Chiefs’ big three X-factor Superstars, he’s probably the one you can pass on the easiest, but he is also capable of slate-breaking performances, so try to fit him in if you can. He has scored a touchdown in three straight sims and scored over 11 DKFP in six straight coming into this contest, highlighted by a 26.2-DKFP performance two sims ago against the Cardinals.

Other Options — George Kittle ($5,600), Jared Cook ($5,200)

Rob Gronkowski, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Kansas City Chiefs, $4,300 — Gronk has been a solid play as a pivot if you do decide to pass on Kelce or if you decide to roll with two TEs by using your flex spot. He’s much cheaper at barely over $4K but has had success, specifically against the Chiefs. He had 33.2 DKFP on eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns in their most recent meeting and put up 15.2 and 4.5 DKFP in his two earlier games against KC. Overall, he hasn’t been nearly as reliable or productive as Kelce but has been decent, averaging 4.5 catches for 45.2 yards per sim.

Other Option — Devin Asiasi ($4,800)

Patriots DST vs. San Francisco 49ers, $3,000 — The Patriots have been one of the best DST in Madden 21, averaging 6.0 DKFP per sim. No other DST on this slate is producing more than 4.6 DKFP, so there’s definitely a strong case for paying up for the Pats if you can. In 61 sims, the Patriots have piled up 64 takeaways along with 101 sacks and 12 defensive touchdowns. They had just 2.0 DKFP in their earlier meeting with the 49ers but did limit them to just 14 points. They have produced at least 9.0 DKFP in three of their past five sims, including a 10.0-DKFP performance against the Eagles in their most recent game.

Saints DST vs. Houston Texans, $2,700 — The Saints get a very favorable matchup against the Texans and Watson, who has plenty of upside but also has been a major turnover risk. He has lost 26 fumbles and thrown 16 interceptions in 59 sims. The Saints have been good at limiting their opponents’ point production and picking up sacks with 138 overall, but they haven’t been able to force many turnovers with just 21 takeaways in 66 contests. If they can get a turnover or two, though, they should be a great DST option in the late game.
