Offense Notes
Yankees/Jays Expensive but Undervalued
The Yankees vs. Blue Jays game from Dunedin on Tuesday night has a decent pitching matchup — James Taillon ($9,400) against Hyun-jin Ryu ($8,000) — but these are two of the strongest offenses in baseball and they’ll be teeing off in an above-average hitting environment. Last night’s matchup produced almost no offense outside of the two home runs from Kyle Higashioka, and the combination of that low output and the high price tags figures to make tonight’s game pretty low owned. There’s enough cheap pitching value on this slate to make “overpaying” for offense a viable GPP strategy, and it’s likely a route that will be very contrarian, especially with how much the Yankees offense has struggled in recent games.
Back to the Astros?
The Astros struggled in a plus-matchup against the Tigers on Monday night, but they figure to actually be more popular for Tuesday’s game despite managing just two runs. Matt Boyd ($6,200) is a better pitcher than Casey Mize, but as a left-hander he makes righties Jose Altuve ($5,600) and Alex Bregman ($5,000) much more appealing plays. The righties that the Astros will likely have in the lineup tonight are cheaper than their left-handed counterparts, so the stack will be more affordable as well. It’s important to note, however, that the roof was open for last night’s game but is expected to be closed tonight, and the hitting environment won’t be the same as the one that produced five home runs (three by the Tigers) in Monday’s game.
