The RBC Heritage has a strong field this season, which usually isn’t the case when playing the week after the Masters. Dustin Johnson (+1250), who RBC sponsors, is among the favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, and a slew of top players like Patrick Cantlay (+1700), Collin Morikawa (+2100) and returning champion Webb Simpson (+1100) will be joining him this week. 10 of the top 20 ranked golfers are in attendance at press time, which means there’s a lot of win equity sitting at the top of the board. Having these players in the field doesn’t mean a longshot or potential first-time winner can’t do well here. The average winning odds over the past seven years is +8600, with Matt Kuchar being the shortest in 2014 at +1400 and Satoshi Kodaira being the longest in 2018 at +25000. Also, per PGA TOUR Communications, four of the last five winners here have been first-time winners on the PGA TOUR.
With the strength of the field and the course setup, the RBC Heritage should give us ample opportunity to attack value all over the betting board this week on DraftKings Sportsbook.
This number may feel off to those looking to back someone in this range, primarily because Ancer hasn’t won on the PGA TOUR yet. That’s understandable, but Ancer is playing great now, finishing top 5 at The American Express (a Pete Dye course) and no worse than 26th over his past four tournaments. He’s gained through approach in eight-straight events and finished his 2021 Masters bid gaining 3.08 strokes with his irons on Sunday, which ranked third. Si Woo Kim (+4500) at a Pete Dye course will always make the shortlist, especially with how well he’s currently playing. Kim also won The American Express earlier this season, which features a Pete Dye design in its course rotation.
Two top 30s in back-to-back events for English is a good sign that he might be coming back into form just in time for the RBC Heritage. His coastal course record is astounding, with excellent finishes at Harbour Town, Waialae CC, Sea Island Resort, and the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship. English gained 3.79 strokes ball-striking over the weekend at Augusta National and could be in for another great week on a course he should feel comfortable playing. Another player who should always be considered at a coastal, bermuda course is Russell Henley (+5000). His MC at THE PLAYERS is not ideal, but he’s putting well and is scorching hot with his irons, gaining in 17 out of his last 18 measured tournaments.
