Madden Stream Picks: Top DraftKings Fantasy Football DFS Targets, Values for April 14

Zach Thompson gives his top studs and value plays at each position for Wednesday’s three-game Madden Stream DraftKings slate, which starts at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The First Round of the 2021 Madden Bracket Tourney wraps up with five more sims on wild weather Wednesday on the DraftKings Dream Stream. The results from each day are available at the main bracket page and the Madden Streams Information Page. There is another jumbo-sized $10K Bracket Challenge Special on the late slate on Wednesday along with the regular freerolls for each game and each classic slate. The first game on the late slate features the Dallas Cowboys visiting the Seattle Seahawks in a rainy game in the virtual Pacific Northwest. At 8:00 p.m. ET in primetime, the Miami Dolphins host the New England Patriots in a wind-blown AFC East matchup, and the final ticket to the Sweet 16 will be punched in the Madden After Dark matchup between the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs, who are the No. 2 overall seed.

As in all of these Madden 21 sims, it’s important to know that each roster is not impacted by COVID-19 opt-outs, injuries, suspensions or illness and that the highest-rated options have been placed at the top of the depth charts. The roster for each team includes all player movement that occurred prior to Week 1 of the 2020-21 season and uses the Madden 21 ratings from Week 1 of this season.

For more details, you can find the game settings, depth charts, abilities and X-factors for each team in Madden 21 on the Madden Stream info page, where you can also find links to the depth charts of each team.

Check out the daily DraftKings Madden Stream contests lobby with paid contests for real cash prizes now available alongside free contests. Each simulation will be played out computer vs. computer via an online Madden Stream using Madden 21. In this format, you can enjoy watching the game stream on the DraftKings YouTube channel, the DK Live app (download here) or right here in this post.

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys, $7,400 — Shockingly, the Cowboys and Seahawks have not faced off in these Madden 21 sims, but we have seen Dallas’ defense struggle with slowing down the run in general and mobile QBs specifically. Wilson is averaging 59.6 rushing yards and 191.4 passing yards for 22.1 DKFP per sim and has totaled 89 passing touchdowns and 33 rushing touchdowns in his 66 sims. Wilson has a very high ceiling and is my top play on this slate even though he isn’t quite as consistent as Patrick Mahomes ($8,200), who is averaging 24.8 DKFP per sim. Wilson usually shines in weather-impacted sims since it forces him to run more and makes defenders slip as they try to keep up with the elusive QB.

With so many big-ticket options at other roster spots, though, I think it’s better to save some salary and go with Russ and his rushing upside instead of Mahomes. Mahomes did have 31.8 DKFP recently against the Jets but only had 18.82 and 23.72 DKFP in the two earlier meetings with New York. He definitely has the potential to go off, but so does Russ since he is a more active rusher. Wilson has over 26 DKFP in three of his past five sims, including a dominant, 34.98-DKFP performance against the Giants. If he has a similar game against another NFC East foe, he should be able to carry Seattle to the second round.

Other Option — Patrick Mahomes ($8,200)

Sam Darnold, New York Jets at Kansas City Chiefs, $5,400 — The Jets’ offense has been boom-or-bust with Darnold at the helm in these sims, but there have been some nice bright spots. He has actually performed pretty well in three previous meetings with the Chiefs, tossing multiple touchdowns in each contest and producing 18.8, 20.92 and 16.84 DKFP. Overall, he has averaged 215.1 passing yards per sim and thrown 85 scores in 66 games. Darnold can save you a ton of salary to stack up top options in other spots, and he has the potential to match the production of the top QBs if he has a ceiling game. By going with Darnold, you also avoid the wind-blown matchup in Miami, where passing could be very difficult due to the elements.

Other Option — Cam Newton ($6,200)

Running Back

Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks, $7,800 — Zeke has feasted in these sims and has scored 11 touchdowns in his past six sims to raise his total to 66 touchdowns in 66 sims. He is the focus of everything the Cowboys do on offense and even gets involved as a pass-catcher with 2.9 receptions per sim. With the weather in Seattle, the Cowboys will likely feed Zeke even more than usual. He comes in on a great run with at least 17 DKFP in each of his past six games with an impressive average of 26.1 DKFP over that span. This should be a great spot for him to keep producing since the Seahawks have given up plenty of yards and points, even though they do force turnovers as highlighted below.

Other Option — Le’Veon Bell ($7,000)

James White, New England Patriots at Miami Dolphins, $4,700 — No two teams have met more often in these Madden 21 sims than the Patriots and the Dolphins, who have faced off seven times since the move to the new game almost nine months ago. White has been the Patriots’ third-down back since then, producing 8.3 DKFP on 3.1 catches for 20.8 receiving yards and 19.7 rushing yards per game. He has only scored one of his dozen touchdowns against the Dolphins but is averaging a solid 8.0 DKFP in their past meetings, including one game with 19.0 DKFP. White has multiple catches in five of his past six contests and is typically even more involved in weather games when downfield passing becomes more difficult.

Other Options — Clyde Edwards-Helaire ($6,400), Carlos Hyde ($3,900)

Wide Receiver

Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets, $8,000 — In their Madden 21 sims, the Jets have been prone to giving up big plays in the passing game, so Hill should be in a prime spot to continue his dominant performances. In his 74 sims, Hill has been the best WR in Madden 21, averaging 6.2 catches for 91.8 yards per sim and scoring 64 touchdowns. He had eight catches for 121 yards and 29.1 DKFP against the Jets in his most recent sim and should be able to use his 99 speed rating to continue to exploit mismatches against the Jets’ secondary. Hill has bounced back from a mini-slump with at least six catches in four straight sims and over 14 DKFP in each of those games.

Other Options — Amari Cooper ($6,800), Julian Edelman ($5,200)

Demarcus Robinson, Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets, $4,500 — Robinson also had a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 31-17 win over the Jets in their most recent sim before the tournament and should be able to find more success in this rematch. Robinson had over 10 DKFP in each of his three earlier matchups with the Jets. Even though he is the Chiefs’ WR3, he is averaging 2.8 catches per sim and has scored 27 touchdowns in 72 sims.

Jakeem Grant, Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots, $3,600 — Grant is the Dolphins’ WR3 and brings some nice upside to this matchup due to his speed. He has averaged 7.4 DKFP in his previous matchups with New England and produced over 9.0 DKFP three times. The Patriots do have a top secondary, but they’ll use their top options to focus on shutting down the Dolphins’ top WRs, which sometimes leaves Grant in a one-on-one matchup where he has the advantage.

Other Options — Michael Gallup ($4,900), N’Keal Harry ($4,600), Phillip Dorsett II ($3,500), Chris Hogan ($3,300)

Tight End

Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs vs. New York Jets, $6,100 — Even with both Hill and Robinson getting plenty of volume, Kelce doesn’t get left out. In his 74 sims, he has averaged an impressive 5.8 catches for 69.0 yards per sim and found the end zone a whopping 42 times. He had 10 catches and 20.9 DKFP in his most recent sim, which was against these same Jets, and he has beaten the Jets for at least 11 DKFP in each of their three previous contests. Kelce has over 100 yards in three of his past four games and should be able to keep rolling, especially if the rain forces Mahomes to focus more on shorter passes.

Other Options — Mike Gesicki ($5,200), Devin Asiasi ($4,800)

Blake Jarwin, Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks, $4,600 — Jarwin has consistently been a part of the Cowboys’ offense, producing 9.8 DKFP or more in nine of his past 13 contests. He is averaging a solid 4.2 catches for 50.1 yards per game. While those numbers pale in comparison to Kelce’s mammoth production, they’re solid enough to help Jarwin average 11.1 DKFP per contest and make him a solid pivot play if you can’t afford to pay up for Kelce or are looking to go with two TEs in your lineup. Double-TE lineups make sense on Wednesdays since tight ends are usually slightly more involved in weather-impacted games.

Other Options — Chris Herndon ($4,300)

Seahawks DST vs. Dallas Cowboys, $3,000 — The rain in virtual Seattle should give the Seahawks’ defense an even greater chance to produce mayhem and turnovers as they have throughout these Madden 21 sims. In their 66 sims, they have forced 64 turnovers, highlighted by 47 defensive fumble recoveries. They have also added 141 sacks, 11 defensive touchdowns and two safeties on their way to 7.0 DKFP per sim. They struggled against the Titans in their most recent sim but before that had posted 6.0 DKFP or more in four straight sims. While Dallas’ offense has some standout stars, it has also stalled out at times in these sims, so don’t be scared off the the matchup, especially with rain creating even more fumble potential.

Dolphins DST vs. New England Patriots, $2,500 — Passing on both the Seahawks and the Patriots DST ($2,900) is a very high-risk strategy since those units have been two of the top DSTs in all of Madden 21. However, if you decide to go in a different direction to save salary there is some upside to consider in going all the way to the cheapest DST on the board and playing the Dolphins. The Dolphins have held the Patriots in check in the past and had 18 DKFP against them in one of their earlier meetings at virtual Hard Rock Stadium. If the wind forces the Patriots to stall out on offense, the Dolphins have a pass rush that could bother Cam Newton ($6,200), resulting in a solid day for the cheapest defense on the board and allowing you more salary flexibility to stack stars in other roster slots.
