Offense Notes
Coors Field Value
Friday night’s MLB slate sets up with one of the more obvious lineup construction scenarios we’ve seen all season. There are three expensive aces on the slate, with Jacob deGrom ($10,900) likely being the focus, and most lineups are going to need to find cheap offense to be able to make the pitchers’ salaries work. This shouldn’t actually be too hard to do, because the Phillies are playing the Rockies at Coors Field, and several hitters from both sides appear to be dramatically underpriced. The best sources of value look to be in the mid range, with Andrew McCutchen ($3,900), C.J. Cron ($3,900), and Alec Bohm ($3,500) all clearly too cheap, and there could be some hitters at 3K or less making their way into the lineup as well. The hitters at the high end are strong values as well, with Rhys Hoskins ($4,600) in particular curiously falling short of the 5K range. It’s probably reasonable to play six or seven hitters from this game in cash lineups, but the problem is that the ownership is going to be through the roof on these guys in GPPs. It’s a 14-game slate so ownership isn’t as big of a concern, but there are surely going to be some severely under-owned players coming from many of Friday’s other games.
Unowned Expensive Offenses
With the aforementioned expensive pitching, most of the hitters that are priced above the ones at Coors are simply going to be an afterthought for most MLB DFS players on Friday night. The Oakland A’s are in a good spot in Baltimore and are on a tear lately with their 11-game winning streak, so they may be the exception to this, but teams like the Red Sox, Yankees, and Braves are going to be extremely difficult to prioritize. The matchups are pretty good for all three, but the salaries on Ronald Acuna Jr. ($6,300), Freddie Freeman ($6,200), and J.D. Martinez ($6,000) in particular are just not going to work for the typical lineup construction. Even Aaron Judge ($5,400) figures to be overlooked with a cost that’s higher than most of the Coors game, and these players could be pretty strong choices in GPPs. Stacking one of these teams most likely means a lineup devoid of a high-end pitcher, but these offenses are simply too good to be as contrarian as they’re bound to be.
