The San Francisco Giants have finally woken up at the plate, scoring 24 runs over their past three games and running out to a stellar 16-9 record, which improbably puts them in first in the NL West. The division-rival Padres will try their best to quiet down this early season juggernaut, sending the great Yu Darvish ($10,800) to the hill. Without further ado, let’s get into how to construct your DraftKings lineups for Friday night’s Showdown contest.
San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres
Captain’s Picks
Fernando Tatis Jr. ($16,500 CP) - Tatis has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past five games, with his only “bad” game still netting him 7 DKFP thanks to a double and a run scored. He may be in for a tough time against these San Francisco pitchers over the weekend, but Logan Webb ($15,300 CP; $10,200) isn’t one you have to worry about too much. He’s been knocked around all season long and only in his last start did he really look good, and that came against the lowly Marlins. Webb sees a 6% decrease in wOBA against lefties, putting the electric shortstop in a fantastic spot.
Manny Machado ($14,400 CP) - I’m going to stick with the right-handed power bats against Webb and take Machado, if I’m not taking Tatis, in an equally great spot. He’s been ever so slightly better against southpaws over his career, so I’m not too concerned that he’s struggled in a small sample this year against lefties (he also had to face some great pitchers like Clayton Kershaw). You can get the second-best bat in the lineup, hitting two spots lower than Tatis, at a $2,100 discount. I like that.

Value Plays
Brandon Crawford ($6,000) - The price sure feels right here on Crawford, who should be in the heart of the Giants’ order once again and has gone 3-for-9 off Darvish in his career with a home run. He’s just a game removed from a three-hit performance, and as far as Giants go he is probably the best value on the board. He could easily return you 7 DKFP at a really reasonable cost, with home run upside.
Mike Tauchman ($4,400) - The former Yankees outfielder should be in the lineup once again against a righty with Mike Yastrzemski on the IL with an oblique injury, and all he did in his San Francisco debut is rack up three hits in four at-bats. He is a proven contact hitter with pop, and the Giants have been vocal about the fact that they acquired him with the future in mind. With that said, he could easily find himself hitting higher than eighth, which would make him a must-play.
Fades
Evan Longoria ($7,600) - It’s true, Longoria was one of the hotter hitters on the Giants early on before going down with an injury. He’s also one of the veteran hitter types you’d think could put together some good at-bats against a guy like Darvish. Well, he’s never been able to do that, going just 4-for-23 since 2015 against the Japanese import with four strikeouts. Longoria may be hitting third, but I think that is about the only thing going for him in this one.
The Outcome
Traveling to San Diego, the Giants are going to run into a buzzsaw in the form of Darvish, who should shut down this lineup the way he just did the Dodgers’ lineup, which has considerably more talent. On the other hand, I think Webb is due for some regression and should get clobbered by some fed-up, frustrated Padres bats. I like the Padres here by quite a few.
Final Score: Padres 6, Giants 1
