In one of the most anticipated matchups of tonight’s nine-game NBA slate, the Phoenix Suns and Utah Jazz will go head-to-head in Phoenix, and DraftKings is offering up some huge Showdown contests for this game. Below, I give you some of my favorite options to attack for the format.
Devin Booker ($15,900 CP)
Booker has been extremely efficient as a shooter recently, shooting an elite 61% from the field and 72% from beyond the arc in his past three starts. Naturally, this has produced a strong 52.8 DKFP per game and the Suns will be playing at home tonight, where Booker has been slightly more productive with 2.5 more DKFP per game this season. This surging Phoenix club that is currently riding a six-game winning streak will host the Jazz tonight, who they only trail by 2.5 games for the top seed in the West. For seeding purposes, this is obviously a very important tilt, and despite both of these defenses ranking inside the top-six in efficiency, DraftKings Sportsbook is listing this contest with a healthy 225.5 O/U game total.
Booker is amassing 41 DKFP per game in totals above 220 points since the All-Star break, and his hot steak should continue in this marquee matchup.
Deandre Ayton ($12,000 CP)
If looking to pay down a little at captain, Ayton is a logical choice at this price. In his last ten games, the former first overall pick has been solid with 33.25 DKFP per game. Over this stretch, Ayton’s playing time has been more steady, going over 30 minutes in seven of ten starts. In his previous ten prior to this, the 22-year-old only cracked 30 minutes twice. Clearly, the Suns’ coaching staff has realized that Ayton needs to be on the floor more, and they will absolutely need him for a minimum of 30 minutes tonight to match up with Rudy Gobert.
Believe it or not, this Jazz defense has actually been an average spot for centers this season, ranking right in the middle at 15th in DKFP allowed to the position, and Ayton should be able to grind out a double-double worth over 30 DKFP tonight.
Chris Paul ($9,800)
During their current six-game winning streak, Paul has scored 47.2 DKFP per game for the Suns. He is coming into Wednesday night with a double-double in each of his past three, and the point guard has been a great fantasy asset in high scoring affairs since arriving in Phoenix. When the O/U has been 225 points or greater so far this season, Paul is contributing 40 DKFP per game.
Plus, the Jazz are currently 2-point road favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, and CP3 has been at his best this season when the oddsmakers are doubting his club. Whenever the Suns have been the underdog in 2020-21, Paul has responded with 45.7 DKFP per game.
Jordan Clarkson ($7,200)
Clarkson, who is currently a massive -1430 favorite on DraftKings Sportsbook to be crowned the sixth man of the year at the end of the season, should be able to provide his usual instant offense off the bench tonight. He has provided over 25 DKFP 50% of the time since the All-Star break and 28 DKFP per game in totals north of 220 points this year.
Clarkson notched 25.8 DKFP the first time these two clubs clashed this season, and he is one of the safest mid-tier targets for this Showdown slate.
Derrick Favors ($2,200)
As the primary backup to Gobert, Favors is guaranteed to play 10-15 minutes off the bench, which may not seem like much, but the veteran is producing 1.08 DKFP per minute this season.
Favors has chipped in with 16.1 DKFP per game across his past ten, including a pair of showings over 20 DKFP. In the first meeting of the season against the Suns back in December, the center tallied 19.75 DKFP, and if in need of a full punt to squeeze in multiple studs tonight, Favors is the best choice.
Joe Ingles ($6,600)
Ingles is a weak value with the Jazz at full strength. If we look at his last five, his only productive outing was this past Saturday night, when he amassed 33 DKFP against the Magic. The other four, he scored 20.75 DKFP or less, and the only reason Ingles had a strong showing vs. Orlando was due to the fact that he started for Mike Conley, who was being rested on the second night of back-to-back.
Ingles will always be a player to consider when one of Conley, Clarkson or Donovan Mitchell are out of the lineup, but with all three healthy and active tonight, the 33-year-old is a tough sell against the Suns. When these two clubs went head-to-head earlier this season, Ingles provided an underwhelming 14.3 DKFP.
Start to finish, this should be a very competitive matchup, but I think the Suns prevail in the end. They are playing with so much confidence right now and as we just saw on Monday night, the Jazz can be susceptible a road team. With their full arsenal of weapons, Utah lost to a Dallas club that was without Kristaps Porzingis, and they have actually lost five of their past ten away from Salt Lake City.
If the Suns win tonight, they will go up 2-0 in this season series and own the tiebreaker against Utah, with only one matchup remaining between these two clubs this season. Only trailing the Jazz by 2.5 games in the standings for the top seed in the Western Conference, best believe this Phoenix club knows what’s at stake tonight and I really like attacking their +107 moneyline odds on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Final Score: Suns 110, Jazz 105
