Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Clippers vs. Mavericks Showdown on May 25

Mike Barner gives his top NBA lineup advice for Tuesday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Clippers and Mavericks, which starts at 10:30 p.m. ET.

The NBA playoffs continue Tuesday with three more games for us to enjoy. One of them will be Game 2 of the series between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Dallas Mavericks, which is also the featured Showdown contest on DraftKings. Let’s highlight some players to consider as you build your lineups.

Los Angeles Clippers vs. Dallas Mavericks

SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Captain’s Pick

Luka Doncic ($19,800 CP): Doncic led the Mavericks to a victory in Game 1, recording 31 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, one steal and two blocks across 41 minutes. He was especially dialed in from deep, shooting 5-for-11 on three-pointers. Add his 36.0 percent usage rate during the regular season to his averages of 8.0 rebounds and 8.6 assists and he’s an ideal candidate for the Captain’s spot.

Kawhi Leonard ($16,200 CP): After shooting 39.8 percent from behind the arc during the regular season, Leonard was only 1-for-6 on three-pointers in Game 1. However, he still scored 26 points and used a monster all-around stat line to propel him to 56.0 DKFP. He logged 41 minutes in the contest and now that the playoffs are here, he should at least threaten to approach 40 minutes on a nightly basis. With his talent, that makes him a great option for the Captain’s spot if you don’t want to pay up for Doncic’s salary.

UTIL Plays

Tim Hardaway Jr. ($7,200): It’s no secret what Hardaway’s role on the Mavericks is. They want him to shoot three-pointers, and shoot them at will. He did just that in Game 1, hitting five of nine attempts on his way to scoring 21 points. With defenses trying to slow down Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, they can’t focus their attention on stopping Hardaway, too. While his general lack of rebounds and assists limit his upside, he’s still appealing based on his three-point-shooting ability.

Rajon Rondo ($5,400): Rondo started to play more down the stretch for the Clippers, averaging 21 minutes over his last 15 games. He turned that into averages of 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 1.0 steals. He ended up playing 24 minutes despite coming off the bench in Game 1, scoring 27.0 DKFP in the process. With a long history of performing well in the playoffs, Rondo could provide value in his role off the bench for the Clippers.

Nicolas Batum ($4,200): Batum was busy in Game 1, logging 32 minutes in the loss. That ended a streak for him of nine straight games with fewer than 30 minutes. In fact, he only averaged 21 minutes per game during that stretch. His length and defensive abilities could leave him with added playing time again in Game 2, so he’s at least someone to consider in tournament play after he scored 24.3 DKFP in Game 1.

Fades

Kristaps Porzingis ($10,000): As good as things were for the Mavericks in their victory in Game 1, Porzingis did not play well. He shot just 4-for-13 from the field, finishing with a paltry 14 points and four rebounds. Injuries limited him to 43 games during the regular season and he sat out 10 of the Mavericks final 14 games, so he might still be a bit rusty. With Leonard and Paul George ($10,400) both playing much better and having similar salaries, it’s difficult to justify adding Porzingis to your entry.

The Outcome

Two stats from Game 1 that likely won’t hold up in Game 2. First, the Mavericks shot 50.0 percent from the field. Second, the Clippers only shot 27.5 percent from behind the arc. That included Leonard and George shooting a combined 3-for-14. During the regular season, they shot 39.8 percent and 41.1 percent on three-pointers, respectively. Look for the Clippers to bounce back with a win in Game 2 with their percentages normalizing.

Final Score: Clippers 111, Mavericks 107
