Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Nuggets vs. Trail Blazers Showdown on May 29

Kenny Ducey gives his top NBA lineup advice for Saturday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Nuggets and Trail Blazers, which starts at 4:00 p.m. ET.

NBA: Playoffs-Denver Nuggets at Portland Trail Blazers Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

It’s put up or shut up time for the Portland Trail Blazers, who have fallen behind 2-1 to the Denver Nuggets after a tough loss at home on Thursday. Can things turn around for Portland, which had claimed home-court advantage in Denver with a Game 1 win, only to fumble it away in Game 3? We’re sure to be in for a real treat as two great teams square off.

Without further ado, let’s get into how to construct your Showdown lineups for Saturday afternoon.

Captain

Damian Lillard ($16,800 CP)

I’m expecting for everything to come up Blazers in this one, considering how tight the margins were in Game 3 despite the fact that the 3-point kings of the NBA shot just 31% from beyond the arc, and lost Jusuf Nurkic to foul trouble yet again. Things should regress to the mean, and the Blazers should be the offense worth targeting here. With that, Lillard should be the top option. Dame has gone for at least five times value in the classic format in every game this series, and in those games he averaged a usage rate of around 35%, which is massive, to go with 60.1 DKFP per game. He should remain aflame here.

Jusuf Nurkic ($12,600 CP)

Nurkic has fouled out of the last two games, but I’m expecting a huge performance here in Game 4. Why? Well, he averaged a career-low in fouls per 36 minutes this year, and never fouled out once until Game 2. He’s added almost 16 points per 100 possessions on offense and has been consistently scoring in the post. He’s been arguably the Blazers’ best player aside from Dame, and I think the ownership here should be low after a couple of clunkers, relatively speaking. He could hit 50 DKFP here and is the best captain on the board, dollar for dollar.

Fades

C.J. McCollum ($9,000)

This is way too much for me to pay for a guy who’s been really disappointing for almost the entire last month. He was at or below 37 DKFP in three straight before scoring 40 fantasy points in Game 3, which was apparently reason to rejoice. He looks unsure of himself out there and is bricking open jumpers. I just can’t recommend playing him with so many intriguing values on the board.

Value FLEX Options

Austin Rivers ($4,800)

Who was the guy to lead the Nuggets down the stretch in Game 3, hitting shot after shot to ice the game in Portland? Was it the presumptive league MVP, Nikola Jokic ($12,000)? Was it the exciting sharpshooter Michael Porter Jr. ($8,600)? Nope, it was Rivers, who was out of the league a couple of months ago. This dude has had a sneaky-great year, starting with some productive minutes with the Knicks before they moved on and opted to get Derrick Rose via trade. He might not play 37 minutes again, but he’s probably earned himself a return to at least 30, considering how hurt the Nuggets are at guard. With that kind of run, and this kind of form, he’s a super value.

Anfernee Simons ($1,000)

Like Rivers, Simons has never shied away from a shot, but unlike Rivers, he won’t garner the type of attention from the DFS community in Game 4. This kid has confidence, and the potential to develop into a great player for the Trail Blazers. Given the fact he’s playing around 16 minutes per game in this series and has hit 24 DKFP in a game already, he’s absolutely worth considering at this crazy price. He’s going to return you at least 10 DKFP here, maybe more, and that’s well worth this kind of money.

The Outcome

The Trail Blazers should shoot better than 31% here from three, and the Nuggets should shoot worse than the roughly 50% mark they shot from three in Game 3. Given the change in these shooting numbers and presumably more run for Nurkic, the Blazers should get the blowout here that’s been building for a couple of games. I expect the Nuggets to be exposed for their lack of a starting point guard and for the Trail Blazers to even this up heading back to Denver.

Final Score: Trail Blazers 127, Nuggets 106
