MLB Best Bets: Baseball Picks, Predictions, Odds to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for May 29

Kenny Ducey gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Saturday’s MLB betting card.

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at Atlanta Braves Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

Hey, it’s the weekend! We’ve got a pleasantly bizarre slate to choose from on Saturday after rainouts across the country on Friday. There are plenty of games to choose from and so many valuable lines out there that it’s hard to pick just a few. With that, here are my best MLB bets to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Oakland Athletics

Over 8 (-118)

Is this a seven-inning game? Is this 2013? What are we doing with a total this low?

I realize Alex Cobb has a sparkling 2.32 FIP this year, but let’s back it up a second. Let’s consider that’s the result of just six starts, and that we have about 70 starts over the last handful of years which tell us Cobb is an awful pitcher. His FIP is what it is because of his high strikeout rate, but he’s still allowing bad contact and walking a ton of hitters, as he has for years. This is the same guy with some inflated numbers due to facing a few high-strikeout teams.

On the other hand, we also know Frankie Montas is a very bad pitcher. He’s working on a second straight year with an ERA close to or above five runs, and his hard-hit rate has shot up over 44%. Oakland has the fourth-best wRC+ over the last two weeks, and the Angels aren’t too far behind in 14th. There will be plenty of runs here.

Detroit Tigers at New York Yankees

Under 8.5 (-117)

Now here’s an under I can get behind. We’ve got a great pitcher going for the Tigers in Spencer Turnbull, who was turning heads long before his no-hitter. The righty is flashing an elite .207 xBA, 32.5% hard-hit rate and a solid 5% walk rate, and faces a wounded and slumping Yankees lineup that mustered up just a couple of runs off of Casey Mize and the Tigers bullpen on Friday. I’m generally a big believer in Young Pedro, Deivi Garcia, and he should be more than up to the task here against a Tigers offense that has been below-average over the past two weeks and all season long.

Atlanta Braves at New York Mets

Braves ML -152

It should be another day, another victory for an Atlanta sports team over one from New York. Talented righty Ian Anderson has begun to level out a bit after a rocky beginning to the season with just one earned run in his last two outings, spanning 12 innings. He’s also got his strikeout rate back up over 25% now and should be able to handle whoever the short-handed Mets are able to trot out on Saturday.

The Braves have one of the best offenses in baseball over the past two weeks, and while Taijuan Walker has been surprisingly great this year, he hasn’t pitched in about two weeks and should be a prime candidate to struggle here. I’d make the Braves a heavier favorite, even on the road.
