Fantasy Basketball Picks: Top DraftKings NBA DFS Lineup Strategy for Clippers vs. Mavericks Showdown on May 30

Matt LaMarca gives his top lineup advice for Sunday’s fantasy basketball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Clippers and Mavericks, which locks at 9:30 p.m. ET

NBA: Playoffs-Los Angeles Clippers at Dallas Mavericks Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The NBA is offering up a four-game slate on Sunday, and the action concludes with Game 4 between the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks at 9:30 p.m. ET. The Mavericks got out to a hot start in this series, taking each of the first two games in Los Angeles, but the Clippers battled back with a win in Game 3. If they’re able to secure a victory in Game 4, the series will be tied up at two games apiece headed back to LA for Game 5.

The Clippers are currently listed as 3.5-point favorites on DraftKings Sportsbook, while the total on this game sits at 221.0 points.

DraftKings is offering up a featured showdown for this contest, so let’s break down some of the top options to consider for your lineups.

Captain’s Picks

Luka Doncic ($19,200 CP) – Doncic is currently questionable with a neck injury, but there is virtually no chance he misses today’s contest. He managed to play through the injury on Friday, and I’d say things turned out pretty well for him. He finished with 44 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, resulting in 71.75 DKFP. Overall, he’s posted a usage rate of at least 47.2% in each of his past two games, which gives him easily the top ceiling in this contest.

Kawhi Leonard (17,400 CP) – There is zero chance that I’m playing without both Doncic and Leonard in my lineup in this contest. It’s going to be tough to fit both – especially if you use one at captain – but it’s definitely doable. Leonard is slightly cheaper, which makes him a bit easier to fit into that top spot. He’s been outstanding in the first three games of this series, scoring at least 56.0 DKFP in each contest.

UTIL Plays

Paul George ($10,800) – George is third on the list of superstars in this contest, which means he’s the player I’d sacrifice if I can only fit two of them. That said, I’d love to get him my lineup if possible. He’s scored at least 46.25 DKFP in each of his past two games, and he’s seeing all the minutes he can handle. That’s not surprising for a star player in the postseason, but it bodes well for his fantasy prospects moving forward. He’s averaged 1.26 DKFP per minute this season, which puts him just slightly behind Leonard in that category (1.31).

Maxi Kleber ($4,200) & Willie Cauley-Stein ($1,800) – This is definitely a stars-and-scrubs slate. If you want to load up on Doncic, Leonard and George, you’re going to need to find some viable value options to pair with them. Luckily, there are some solid options to choose from.

Kleber stands out as one of my favorites. He’s carried a massive workload for the Mavericks to start this series, logging at least 34.2 minutes in all three contests. He’s responded with at least 20.25 DKFP in all three games, and you’ll definitely take that kind of production at just $4,200.

Cauley-Stein is my favorite pure punt play at just $1,800. He’s not expected to see more than 12-15 minutes, but that isn’t necessarily a death blow to his value. He’s averaged 0.88 DKFP per minute over the past month, so he’s capable of returning value with limited playing time. He did just that in Game 3, racking up 17.0 DKFP over 14.1 minutes.

Nicolas Batum ($3,800) & Terance Mann ($3,200) – The Clippers have some nice value options as well. They made the decision to start Batum over Ivica Zubac ($3,400) in the second half of Game 3, and the Clippers outscored the Mavs by eight points to finish the game. Zubac has been a disaster when on the court in this series – the Clippers have been outscored by 31 points in his 52 minutes – so I would expect them to start Batum to begin Game 4.

That gives Batum plenty of appeal. He’s averaged 0.80 DKFP per minute over the past month and could approach 30 minutes in this contest.

Batum playing more minutes at center also has a trickle-down effect on the rest of the roster. It opens up more minutes on the wing, and Mann is someone who should benefit. He played a series-high 19.4 minutes in Game 3 and responded with 18.5 DKFP. He could see more minutes in Game 4 if Batum draws the start at center.

Fades

Rajon Rondo ($7,400) – Rondo was another beneficiary of the Clippers’ decision to play small in their last game. He finished with 24.5 DKFP over 26.1 minutes, which was more than enough to pay off his $5,600 salary.

That said, Rondo has seen a massive price increase for Game 4. His price jumped nearly $2,000, and it’s just hard to fit him in your lineup at that price tag. He’s going to need to average well over 1.00 DKFP per minute to pay off his elevated price tag. Rondo has averaged 0.96 DKFP per minute this season, so that’s simply asking too much.

THE OUTCOME

I still believe that the Clippers are going to win this series. They are the better team, and the Mavericks had some unsustainably hot shooting numbers through the first two games of the series. They came back to reality a bit in Game 3, and the Clippers’ decision to bench Zubac should also be a positive for Los Angeles. I think the Clippers take care of business in Game 4 to tie things up.

If that happens, it’s going to come on the back of big games from Leonard and George. Their role players should also provide plenty of value. I think the winning lineup ultimately has both Clippers studs, Doncic and three value plays, with one of the studs being used in the captain position. I also like a 4-2 roster construction with four members of the Clippers and two members of the Mavericks.

Final Score: Clippers 121, Mavericks 113
