SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Captain’s Pick

Paul George ($15,300 CP): George has taken his efficiency to another level, shooting a career-high 47.0 percent from the field. Not only that, he’s taken on more of a playmaking role for the Clippers, averaging 5.2 assists per game. Prior to this season, he had never averaged more than 4.1 assists per game. The Raptors have allowed the seventh-most assists per game in the league, so when you add George’s upside in that area to his excellent scoring numbers, he’s difficult to resist for the Captain’s spot.

Kyle Lowry ($12,300 CP): After sitting out Saturday for rest, Lowry exploded Sunday for 63.0 DKFP against the Lakers. He shot 12-for-20 from the field, including 8-for-13 from behind the arc. While that type of efficiency isn’t sustainable, his 39.6 percent shooting on three-pointers this season is more than four percentage points higher than his mark in either of the last two seasons. With at least 38.5 DKFP in three straight contests, he’s an interesting option for the Captain’s spot if you’re looking to deploy a more well-rounded lineup.

UTIL Plays

Kawhi Leonard ($9,400): After missing nine of 10 games because of injury, Leonard made his return Saturday against the Nuggets. He jumped right back in and played 30 minutes, which is encouraging for his prospects in this game. With his season average of 45.9 DKFP per game, he’s one of the top options for this contest, even if you don’t use his hefty salary in the Captain’s spot.

Malachi Flynn ($4,400): This pick requires some monitoring. Gary Trent Jr. (lower leg) has missed each of the last five games and his status for this matchup is very much in doubt. Flynn has taken on more playing time in his absence, which helped him score at least 27.8 DKFP three times. If Trent is ruled out again, Flynn could provide excellent value.

Rajon Rondo ($3,400): Are we nearing an appearance from Playoff Rondo? He’s starting to play more as the postseason approaches, having logged at least 22 minutes in five of his last six games. He’s taken advantage of his opportunities, scoring at least 26.5 DKFP four times. At such a cheap salary, he could be worth the risk in tournament play, especially if you decide to use a lineup that includes both George and Leonard.

Fades

Reggie Jackson ($6,200): Jackson has remained a starter for the Clippers and really hasn’t seen his playing time diminish despite Rondo’s recently increased role. However, he’s scored 25.0 DKFP or fewer in four of his last seven games. He only shot 38.8 percent from the field during that seven-game stretch, which is not a huge surprise given that he’s shot no higher than 42.6 percent in each of the previous four seasons. Since his salary doesn’t come at much of a discount, it might be wise to keep him out of your entries.

The Outcome

This game being on the road is noteworthy for the Raptors given that they are just 11-22 there this season. Meanwhile, the Clippers are a sparkling 24-9 at home. This shouldn’t be a rest situation for the Clippers given that they don’t play again until Thursday, so with the expectation that both George and Leonard take the floor, look for them to emerge with a victory.
