NBA Best Bets: Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for May 5

Julian Edlow gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Wednesday’s NBA betting card.

The NBA is the Wild West right now with COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. We sit at 70-63-3 on article plays this season and look to improve down the stretch.

Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Orlando Magic at Boston Celtics

Jayson Tatum OVER 28.5 Points (-105)

We’ve recently gone after Tatum and Jaylen Brown point props when one plays without the other, and have been having success with it. In the seven games Tatum has played without JB this season, he’s averaging 31.3 points per game — getting up 23.6 field goals (9.3 three-point attempts) in 38.2 minutes. We’ll chase that upside here against a woeful Orlando squad that ranks in the bottom half of the league in points per game allowed.

Looking beyond the edge that the injury report offers us here, Tatum has simply been scorching hot lately. He’s scored 44-plus points on three occasions in April, setting his career-high with 53 points, then breaking it on Friday with 60 points. JT has scored at least 33 points in four of his last five, and is averaging 37.0 during that span. Look for him to stay hot against Orlando, particularly with Boston’s other All-Star on the sidelines.

New York Knicks at Denver Nuggets

NYK +4 (-110)

MORE KNICKS! Seriously, we are getting in the territory where you can almost blind bet this team until we’re handed a bad loss. The Knicks have now won 12 of their last 13 outright, including a legendary 15-1 ATS run, covering their last seven games on the road.

That brings us to Denver, where the Knicks are underdogs once again. Sure, the Nuggets have won six in a row at home, but they’re also just 3-6 ATS over their last nine, and 2-6 ATS in their last eight game as the favorite. Give me the points with this gritty Knicks team, especially getting healthy at the right time against a Denver squad that’s a bit banged up.
