The San Diego Padres will try to make it two series wins in two weeks against the San Francisco Giants, only this time they’ll need to get it done on the road in Northern California. Blake Snell ($10,800) will get the ball again for the Padres in what will be his third go-around against the Giants, and he’ll see Anthony DeSclafani ($9,800) on the other end of the matchup. Without further ado, let’s get into how to construct your DraftKings lineups for Friday night’s Showdown contest.
San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants
Captain’s Picks
Blake Snell ($16,200 CP) - I’m not thrilled about Snell’s prospects in this game, but I think he should be the better fantasy performer even if DeSclafani winds up having the better line. It’s hard to ignore the strikeouts with Snell, which have been there even in the past couple of years when he’s struggled with walks and hard contact. He’s also averaging roughly 20.0 DKFP in the two starts he’s had against the Giants, so if nothing else, he gives you confidence in recent results. Again, it’s not my favorite play in the world, but in this game, I think you take what is probably a guaranteed 17-plus DKFP points with the strikeouts.
Trent Grisham ($14,100 CP) - The left-handed hitting outfielder hasn’t really blown anyone away this year with a big night, but he carries a high floor due to his role as the leadoff man for San Diego. He’s the top hitter on this team against righties with a 145 wRC+ and probably represents my second-favorite Captain’s pick option in cash games, just for the assurance you’ll get at least 7.0 DKFP. I like Buster Posey ($9,600; hamstring) here, too, but I’m not sure about his status, which is why I went to Grisham. If Posey plays, he’s a solid option, as well.

Value Plays
Jake Cronenworth ($7,400) - If you’re a BVP person, there’s not a whole lot for you in this Showdown. Cronenworth is always one of my favorite plays in Padres showdowns, anyway, but the fact that he’s 2-for-5 off of DeSclafani in his career makes this an even better play. He has seven hits in seven games, and in an affair that may not have a lot of runs scored, you’ll want to locate the guys that will have a high floor with hits like Cronenworth will.
Mike Tauchman ($4,800) - I’m still not understanding what’s going on with Tauchman’s price. He is leading off for the Giants, and he’s posted a 122 OPS+ so far in seven games with his new team. I realize he’s facing Snell, but he’s another guy with a positive history against the opposing pitcher, with a .333 lifetime average. He’s also one of the best hitters on this team right now and simply can’t be ignored at this price.
Fades
Wilmer Flores ($8,800) - The Giants have been forced to go to Flores a lot lately with so many injuries, and I couldn’t like this spot any less. The veteran has always been known as a lefty-masher, but he’s taken an axe to that label so far this season by posting just a 32 wRC+ against southpaws. For context, 100 is league average. Flores has been awful in this split and he’s scattered his great games, anyway. He should be an easy fade here given his poor form.
The Outcome
I have been lower than most on Snell for awhile, but these last two years in particular have been troubling for the lefty. While his strikeout rate might make him a viable DFS asset, he’s struggled mightily with walks in 2021 and the Giants, fourth-best in walk rate, should be up to task of getting some runners on base here. With so much traffic, and behind a good game from DeSclafani, the Giants should pull it out late.
Final Score: Giants 4, Padres 2
