NBA Best Bets: Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds to Consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for May 7

Julian Edlow gives his best bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s NBA betting card.

The NBA is the Wild West right now with COVID-19 and the league’s health protocols, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t edges to be had. After a rollercoaster of a week, we sit at 72-65-3 on article plays this season. Let’s finish strong on Friday with some player props.

Follow along on Twitter — @julianedlow for what we hope to be another great season, as some plays jump out late due to news, particularly in the player prop market. Here’s what jumps out to me on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Boston Celtics at Chicago Bulls

Jayson Tatum OVER 28.5 Points (-134)

Here we are again. We played this one on Wednesday, and Tatum finished a bucket short of cashing the over for us, but we had several chances for it to hit, and ran into some bad luck each time. The Celtics thumped the Magic, and Tatum somehow scored just two of the team’s 39 points in the first quarter. He came to life and finished with 27 points, but then wound up sitting almost the entire fourth quarter in an eventual 36-point victory.

That doesn’t change the fact that Tatum has been dominant with Jaylen Brown off the floor, averaging nearly 31 points in the eight games he’s played with Brown out. That’ll be the case again on Friday. Kemba Walker had it going in Orlando on Wednesday, finishing with 32 points. I think the scoring load shifts back onto Tatum, in what should be a more competitive game in Chicago. As I mentioned on Wednesday, JT is just in a good groove right now, setting career-highs of 53 and then 60 points over the last month. I’ll keep riding him, even after an unfortunate loss.

Orlando Magic at Charlotte Hornets

PJ Washington OVER 16.5 Points (-106)

Right back to another one that cashed for us just last night. Washington missed a game due to the birth of his son, and returned on Thursday to easily cash his prop with 24 points against the Bulls. Yes, he caught fire going 6-of-8 from deep, but we could’ve afforded a couple misses there and still cashed.

Washington has been crushing over his last 10 games, now scoring 16-plus points on nine occasions. Since being reinserted into the starting lineup, Washington is averaging 20.7 points while playing 35.4 minutes per game. He’s shooting 56.4% from the field, including 51.1% from beyond the arc. With Miles Bridges sidelined, as he was on Thursday, we can lock in an even more secure role for Washington in the frontcourt. Orlando isn’t very competitive at the moment, and this is a big game for the Hornets, so we should be able to count on a strong showing.
