Happy Sunday! As a way to fight off the end-of-the-weekend blues, we have a proper 14-game afternoon slate on the diamond. I’ve got my eye on quite a few bets today, but have narrowed it down to three. With that in mind, here are my best MLB bets to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Milwaukee Brewers at Miami Marlins
Marlins -143
Whenever Brett Anderson is starting, you notice. The lefty is making his return off the injured list, and I expect him to pick up right where he left off and look incredibly mediocre on the hill. The Marlins have struggled all season long at the plate, especially against lefties, but Anderson is a different breed. He’s walked 11% of the batters he’s faced, which should help Miami get some traffic on the basepaths, and he’s allowing hard contact at over a 40% rate for a third straight year. On the other side of this matchup is an exceptional Sandy Alcantara, who should dominate a weak lineup with his great strikeout numbers and track record so far this season.

Tampa Bay Rays at Oakland Athletics
A’s -117
I don’t think anyone, the A’s included, thought we’d be sitting here talking about the effectiveness of Cole Irvin after six starts, but here we are! In truth, I think the tall lefty was just meant to start one or two games, but he’s been good enough to stick around in this rotation. On Sunday he’ll face a team that’s had an adverse time against lefties in the Rays, ranking 22nd in wRC+ within the split. They’ll counter with a pretty darn good one of their own in Shane McClanahan, but not only do the A’s rake against lefties, but McClanahan is also a rookie. Inexperienced pitchers have the tendency to be very volatile in the early stages of their career, and it only makes me feel even better about backing the splits advantage and the surprisingly decent Irvin.

Los Angeles Dodgers at Los Angeles Angels
Under 8.5
It is with a heavy heart that I am backing Jose Quintana to pitch well here. As you may know by now, he’s been one of my favorite pitchers to fade not just this year but for the past few seasons. The fact of the matter is, the Dodgers can’t hit lefties. Last year they were in the middle of the pack, and this season they rank 21st with an 86 wRC+. I don’t care how bad the lefty is — I’d put Quintana down there with Marco Gonzales — they’ve all managed to shut down this lineup.
On the other hand, while the Angels have been sixth in wRC+ over the past two weeks and can hit in their own right, they may have used up all their runs on Friday night. Trevor Bauer has been exceptional this season and should help us greatly when it comes to our under.
