Fantasy Baseball Picks: Top DraftKings MLB DFS Lineup Strategy for Rockies vs. Dodgers Showdown on July 23

Kenny Ducey gives his top lineup advice for Friday’s fantasy baseball Showdown contest on DraftKings between the Rockies and Dodgers, which starts at 10:10 p.m. ET.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers at Colorado Rockies Michael Ciaglo-USA TODAY Sports

Our late DraftKings Showdown matchup on Friday sees the Colorado Rockies head back on the road, where they’ve struggled all season long, to face one of the strongest teams in the NL, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Though L.A. has statistically hit the ball very well lately, its offensive outbursts have been sporadic. Will another one come on Friday against the weak Chi Chi Gonzalez ($10,000)?

Plenty of fun is sure to ensue, so let’s get right into how to construct your DraftKings lineups for Friday night’s Showdown contest.

Colorado Rockies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

Captain’s Picks

David Price ($15,900 CP) - The big question here will be how deep into the game Price pitches, considering he is still being stretched out after beginning the season in the bullpen. The lefty has been very effective this year with a 3.12 ERA and faces a lineup that’s dreadful away from Coors Field, so even with some risk, Price is viable. There’s no way you’re paying for Chi Chi Gonzalez, so this is what you need to do to secure the high floor of pitcher points. As an added bonus, Price did say this week that he expects his pitch count to continue to climb, so maybe he goes five innings.

Will Smith ($12,900 CP) - Without Max Muncy, who’s out on paternity leave, I’m sort of at a loss as to what I want to do with this Dodgers offense. I think Smith is probably the most sensible play, considering he should be locked into third or fourth in the order and gets to face a righty, a split he prefers. He’s been red-hot lately with five hits (including a homer) and seven RBIs when the Dodgers faced the Rockies in Colorado last week, and he followed that up with a couple of homers in the Giants series. He’s my favorite Dodgers hitter.

UTIL Plays

Chris Taylor ($9,400) - It’s a hefty price to pay, but I think with injuries abound for Los Angeles, there’s plenty of value to make this work (and we’ll get to that in a second). Taylor is engulfed in flames with six hits, six runs scored and three homers in his past three games, and he will likely lead off yet again for the Dodgers. He’s one of the few hitters I trust on this slate, and he has owned Chi Chi Gonzalez in his career with a couple of home runs and a .523 xwOBA in 11 plate appearances.

Billy McKinney ($4,800) - Again, there’s no Muncy and Mookie Betts ($11,000) continues to nurse a hip injury, so we should see McKinney tonight. Given he’s in the lineup, I love deploying him considering how special he looked at times offensively with the Mets. He doubled late in Thursday’s loss to the Giants off of Jake McGee and I think he should carry that confidence forward into Friday against one of the game’s worst hurlers.

Fades

Trevor Story ($9,000) - It’s hard to justify paying this price for Story, who has been ice cold at the plate and is at the heart of trade talks. His days are numbered in Colorado and he seems to be playing like it. On top of that, he’s been pretty pedestrian against lefties in 2021, with only slightly better numbers in that split. He’s also 1-for-7 lifetime off of Price. I don’t see too much working in his favor here.

The Outcome

The Dodgers should take out their anger after a brutal series loss to division rival San Francisco and put the hurt on Colorado. The league’s worst road offense by a wide margin, the Rockies should have a hard time against Price, who has been pitching very well this season, even though they do generally hit lefties well. Even if they scratch across a few runs, Gonzalez’s bout with quality contact should lead to a big night at the plate for Los Angeles.

Final Score: Dodgers 7, Rockies 3
