This week’s Wyndham Championship has a lighter field than what we’ve seen in recent weeks, headlined by Webb Simpson, Louis Oosthuizen, and Hideki Matsuyama. It’s a more low-key tournament for the PGA TOUR, but it’s still a big week in the DraftKings Championship Series, as the Fantasy Golf World Championship moves onto its second round. The original field of 250 DFS players has been cut down to 100 for Round 2 of the tournament, and 40 of the remaining players will advance to the final round. That final round will take place from August 19-22 at THE NORTHERN TRUST, located at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, and it will be a live final with $1 million going to the winner.
The DraftKings Championship Series is the king of competitions, minting 100 millionaires in the 2021-22 season. For more info on the series and all of the events, visit our DraftKings Championship Series Information page.
First Round Recap
The first round of the Fantasy Golf World Championship was a wild one, with late swings at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational that shook up the standings over the final few holes. Harris English fell from 1st place to 4th place late on Sunday, while Abraham Ancer wound up surging to the top. You can find the full story from that event here.
An Unusual Group of Top Golfers
For this week’s slate at the Wyndham Championship, the 100 remaining Fantasy Golf World Championship participants will have an unusually light group of golfers to choose from. Patrick Reed has withdrawn from the event, and there are only five players left priced at $10K or higher: Matsuyama, Oosthuizen, Simpson, Will Zalatoris, and Jason Kokrak. There’s a trickle-down effect in tournaments like this as well, as some of the usually very cheap golfers are priced into the mid-tier or even higher. It’ll be interesting to see how the FGWC field handles this as this week’s contests might take a different shape from what many of the participants are used to.
What’s Next on the Champ Series Calendar
The Fantasy Golf World Championship will span the next two weekends, concluding with THE NORTHERN TRUST on August 22. After that, the next major DraftKings Championship Series event is the Fantasy Baseball World Championship, which will be held on September 10 with a location that is still yet to be announced. There are still seats up for grabs, so don’t miss your chance if you’re still interested in qualifying!
