August 19 marks the beginning of the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup Playoffs, with the field of 125 golfers starting the playoff competition from THE NORTHERN TRUST at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey. While this is just the first of three rounds of the FedExCup, it’s simultaneously the third and final round of the Fantasy Golf World Championship. The FGWC field began with 250 of the world’s best DFS players before being cut down to 100 at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and from there it was trimmed down to 40 finalists at the Wyndham Championship. Those 40 final spots consist of 27 unique players, and they’ll all be competing for a $1 million top prize, as well as a seat at the DraftKings Championship Series Tournament of Champions.
The DraftKings Championship Series is the king of competitions, minting 100 millionaires in the 2021-22 season. For more info on the series and all of the events, visit our DraftKings Championship Series Information page.
Recap of the First Two Rounds
The first two rounds of the Fantasy Golf World Championship took place over the last two weekends, with the first round coinciding with the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and the second round playing out during the Wyndham Championship. It was a pretty historic pair of weekends, as both produced multi-player playoffs, with a three-man and then a six-man playoff needed to decide the two events. The other thing that was notable, especially from a DFS perspective, was that the 54-hole leader failed to make the playoff in both tournaments, and it was a “chalk” fantasy pick in both cases. Harris English fell apart towards the end of the fourth round two weeks ago, and the same thing happened to Russell Henley the subsequent weekend. FGWC Shadow Contest
In addition to the competitors who will be competing at the live event, the Fantasy Golf World Championship is yet another opportunity for anyone to compete in a free-to-play shadow contest. The PGA TOUR 2021 FGWC Shadow Contest is a single-entry contest with a $1,000 first place prize going to the winner, and on top of that, anyone who beats the winning score in the FGWC will win a share of an additional $10,000!
What’s Next on the Champ Series Calendar
The Fantasy Golf World Championship concludes this weekend, with a live final that will take place at THE NORTHERN TRUST from August 19 to August 22. After that, the next major DraftKings Championship Series event is the Fantasy Baseball World Championship, which will be held on September 10 with a location that is still yet to be announced. There are still seats up for grabs, so don’t miss your chance if you’re still interested in qualifying!
