Browns running back Kareem Hunt is a PPR value after only two weeks in the team’s lineup. We break down the fantasy football implications.

The Cleveland Browns beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday Night Football to open Week 11, and for the second straight week, running back Kareem Hunt was actively involved in the passing game. Hunt had six receptions for 46 yards to go along with six rushing attempts for 12 yards. He was targeted eight times, which was second only to Odell Beckham Jr. This performance came a week after he had seven receptions for 44 yards on nine targets against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy football analysis: RB Kareem Hunt

Rotoworld offered a good description for Hunt. He is being used like James White in the Patriots offense. Nick Chubb is the workhorse. Even when Chubb does not have an impressive yards per carry tally, he is a grinder who will get plenty of volume.

Coming off an eight game suspension, Hunt’s role was not entirely clear in this offense. He had the strong start, but now that it has happened two weeks in a row, it’s turning into a trend. He has PPR value at this point, and is worth a start next week when the Browns host the Miami Dolphins.

Thursday Night Football ended in an incredibly ugly fashion.

An ugly evening of Thursday Night Football had a particularly ugly ending as Myles Garrett was ejected for hitting Mason Rudolph in the head with his own helmet. It was a wild ending that is surely going to result in at least one lengthy suspension, and likely multiple other suspensions.

One the penultimate play of the Steelers final offensive drive, Mason Rudolph threw a short pass to Trey Edmunds. Garrett was attempting to take Rudolph to the ground at the end of the play and Rudolph grabbed hold of Garrett’s helmet. It looked like he was attempting to pull it. As Garrett started getting back up, he grabbed Rudolph and yanked off his helmet. He then swung the helmet and hit the quarterback in the head.

Players from both sidelines pouted on the field and got into a melee that resulted in Garrett and Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi getting ejected. Maurkice Pouncey kicked Garrett in the head after the latter had been subsequently taken to the ground by Steelers players.

It’s tough.”

Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens followed with his own condemnation.

“It’s not who we want to be at the end of the game,” Kitchens said of the incident. “It’s not who Myles wants to be. That’s not who we’re going to be. You have to be able to maintain your composure in times like that and in no circumstance do we want anything to do with anything like that. I’m embarrassed. Myles is embarrassed. It’s not good.
The Steelers are losing players left and right. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson is the latest. We break down what it means to the wide receiver corps.

UPDATE: Diontae Johnson has been ruled OUT for the rest of the game with a concussion.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are having a brutal Week 11 matchup agains the Cleveland Browns on Thursday Night Football. Wide receiver Diontae Johnson took a shot to the head from Damarious Randall and was looked at by trainers. The NFL league office in New York elected to eject Randall from the game.

Johnson needed some assistance walking off the field and was taken to the blue medical tent. After the initial evaluation he was taken back to the locker room on a cart, but the broadcast showed some blood coming out of his ear. The team announced he is questionable to return, but that seems highly unlikely.

The injury comes after JuJu Smith-Schuster was ruled out with a concussion after another helmet-to-helmet hit. Johnson had two receptions for 17 yards when he went down. The two injuries leave the Steelers with James Washington, Johnny Holton, and Tevin Jones as their only wide receivers. The team also lost running back James Conner to an aggravation of his shoulder injury.

The Steelers running back aggravated a previous injury. We break down the fantasy football implications.

James Conner injury status update

The Steelers have ruled Conner OUT for the rest of the game. Jaylen Samuels has replaced him in the backfield, and has had two carries for eight yards since Conner’s injury. Trey Edmunds has added one for a loss of one yard as the game has reached halftime.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trailing the Cleveland Browns 14-0 and their comeback increased in difficulty. Running back James Conner has left the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury and is questionable to return, per reports. He is getting the injury looked at in the locker room, per the TNF sideline reporter. The injury is an aggravation of the separated shoulder that cost him the last two games.

Conner had five rushes for ten yards and one six-yard reception at the time of his injury. Jaylen Samuels has one rush for seven yards and will likely take over as the starter while Conner is evaluated. Trey Edmunds will also get some work after entering the game as the third string running back. Benny Snell is inactive with a knee injury.

Jaylen Samuels had fantasy value while James Conner was on the mend. Now that Conner is back, is Samuels still worth a start in fantasy?

UPDATE: James Conner aggravated his shoulder injury in Week 11 TNF and has left the game. Samuels is now the starter with Trey Edmunds getting work as well.

Jaylen Samuels has put up two strong PPR games in Week 4 against the Bengals and Week 9 against the Colts. Against the Bengals, he shared time with James Conner, and both put up big numbers against their awful defense, and the other time was with Conner out. ON average, Samuels hasn’t seen enough work to put up good numbers while Conner also played.

Samuels has been a disaster on the ground, as he has rushed 40 times for 89 yards for a mediocre 2.2 yards per carry. All of his success has come through the air in those two games, as he caught eight and 13 passes. In no other game has he topped three receptions.

Fantasy football analysis: Pittsburgh Steelers RB Jaylen Samuels

On Thursday night, Samuels will back up Conner against the Browns. Cleveland ranks 14th in DVOA against pass-catching running backs, but the real question is if Samuels will get playing time. On average, he’s had six touches per game when Conner plays. That isn’t enough to project a startable fantasy game for the backup.

This game has a 40 point over/under and will likely be a grinder. If we knew Samuels would see targets, he’d have value, but Conner sees so much work through the air, that it doesn’t look promising.

Neither team practiced after playing on Sunday, but a report is required, so we get an estimated participation report.

Running back James Conner was listed as a full participant, while third string back Benny Snell was listed as a DNP. Given that the team didn’t actually practice, Tuesday’s report will offer a little more insight into these players’ actual status.

If Conner returns to action, Samuels loses his starter value. He still holds PPR value in deeper leagues, but Conner would be the go-to guy in standard leagues. The Steelers face a shaky Browns defense which makes Conner a strong starting option if he is active in Week 11.

The Cleveland Browns unveiled their inactive list, and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones will be active. He was listed as questionable with a knee injury, but will play in Week 11 on Thursday Night Football vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers.

RSJ is not a great season-long fantasy option, but for this week, he offers some streaming value and more importantly, some DFS value. The Steelers have given up the seventh most fantasy points to tight ends. Maybe they lock it down this week, but with them likely to focus on Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, Seals-Jones is worth a look.

His DraftKings price sits at a mere $5,400. Nobody cheaper than him will likely see significant snaps. Trey Edmunds might vulture a touchdown, but RSJ is an intriguing volume play against this bad defense. This is not something I’d recommend most weeks, but for this week against a bad defense vs. tight ends, you could do worse if you’re looking for some upside from a player most people will avoid.

Pick against the spread

The Browns are currently laying 2.5 points at DraftKings Sportsbook. This should be a low-scoring affair, and given the talent levels involved, should come down to the wire. I’m inclined to take the points with the Steelers. It’s hard to justify laying the points with the Browns against most teams. It’s probably safer to stay away from this game entirely, but if I had to pick a side, it would be Steelers +2.5. The point total sits at 40 for the game. I’m inclined to bet the over on such a low number.
