So the Pistons basically get rid of Drummond for spare parts in this deal. The good thing for Detroit, though, is they shed Drummond massive contract. He is making $27M this season and has a player option for 2020-21 at $28.7M, which he’d likely pick up. While Drummond is only 26 and in the prime of his career, he’s more of an “Old School” center in that he can’t spread the floor and isn’t an elite defender. Drummond is still one of the best rebounders in the NBA and would be added to a front court featuring Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson (for the time being).

What are the implications of the Clippers adding Morris and IT? We take a look at the odds for them to win it all on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers are favored to win the NBA Championship at +275 on DK Sportsbook. They are followed by the Milwaukee Bucks at +300 and then we have the Clippers are +333. The Clips made a splash today, acquiring Marcus Morris in exchange for Maurice Harkless. Does this deal sway their title hopes?

I like Harkless as a player. I think he’s an underrated asset as a capable three-point shooter who can also defend. He’s shooting 37% from three this season, which is likely higher than most people would think without looking it up. Even so, Morris looks to be a decent upgrade when looking at his numbers. He’s shooting a career-high 43.9% from three. It’s an incredibly impressive number especially when considering the limited amount of floor spacing he had in the Knicks’ offense.

Morris is going to get more open looks playing alongside Paul George and Kawhi Leonard. On the defensive end, Morris has been able to hold his own this season. Despite playing on a horrendous Knicks’ team, he’s 13th amongst small forwards in defensive real plus-minus. Not only should he help the Clippers, there is value in keeping him from the Lakers, who are in need of perimeter shooting. I don’t view adding Morris as a massive title swinging move, but he slightly improves the Clippers’ odds.

The Timberwolves made a huge move, acquiring D’Angelo Russell from the Warriors. Wiggins was sent out to Golden State and we look at how this will impact him in fantasy.

Teams just don’t believe in Andrew Wiggins. Well, maybe that’s not the entire story, but this is the second time that Wiggins has been dealt in his career. Now, he’ll be thrilled to be joining the Warriors, right? The answer is of course. While the Warriors aren’t the same team currently, it won’t be long before they’re at full strength again with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Golden State will bring in Wiggins to mesh with its core and chase another title next season.

Wiggins has shown flashes of massive upside this season, averaging 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. His shooting splits leave much to be desired —44.4/33.1/72 — but those figures could improve once we see Wiggins with Steph and Klay. For now, let’s focus on his fantasy basketball outlook the rest of the season.

Fantasy basketball analysis: Andrew Wiggins trade to Warriors

Like I mentioned, Wiggins shooting splits are weak and his overall effectiveness on offense has been lacking most of the season. This could be the result of trade rumors and being on a poor basketball team in the T-Wolves. The Warriors aren’t much better, but we should expect Stephen Curry to return to the lineup in March. Once that happens, we could see Wiggins take off, getting less attention on defense and more open looks on offense. The Dubs have lacked a wing scorer since Kevin Durant bolted in free agency and Wiggins should provide that in some capacity. While Curry is out, Wiggins should be the go-to scorer for the Warriors, so I’d say his fantasy value gets a nice bump with this trade.

The All-Star caliber guard finally lands in Minnesota with Karl-Anthony Towns. What type of expectations should we set for fantasy basketball?

The Golden State Warriors made a big splash before the NBA Trade Deadline on Thursday, sending G D’Angelo Russell to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and draft picks. Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman were also sent to Minnesota as part of the deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

We weren’t sure if the Dubs would pull the trigger on a deal involving Russell, but they ultimately went with it, acquiring Wiggins while retaining some draft picks in the process. For now, let’s focus on the fantasy basketball impact the trade will have on D’Lo and the Timberwolves.

Fantasy basketball analysis: D’Angelo Russell trade to Timberwolves

This is a huge move for Russell, who should take over as the point guard in Minny. The team had just traded away Shabazz Napier and the depth at guard is thin outside of a few young players in Jarrett Culver, Josh Okogie and Malik Beasley. This is essentially a two-man show of Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, who should be thrilled about the deal. This give the Timberwolves an excellent inside-out combo to build around in the future.

Through 33 games this season, Russell had been averaging 23.6 points and 6.2 assists on 43% shooting from the field and 37.4% from distance. This was on a poor Warriors team and not much will change for Minnesota, which is 15-35 and at the bottom of the West. The T-Wolves have lost 13 in a row and it doesn’t appear much will turnaround. Still, Russell should be in just as good a fantasy basketball position on the Timberwolves as the Warriors. I’d expect a slight uptick in usage and potentially better assist numbers feeding KAT down low. Russell is a great future asset if you own him in keeper leagues.

The Mavericks have been able to endure injuries, but a run at a title still seems farfetched. We go over why Dallas didn’t make a move.

The Dallas Mavericks weren’t viewed as a potential contender at the beginning of the season. It wasn’t until we caught our first glimpse of 2019-20 Luka Doncic that we knew the Mavs could have something special brewing. With Doncic, Kristaps Porzingis and a deep supporting cast, Dallas believes it has a legit shot at contending in the West. Outside of the locker room, people aren’t so sure. The Dwight Powell injury was a big blow and Doncic has dealt with ankle issues on a few occasions this season. Porzingis isn’t safe from the injury bug either. One block gets pulled out and the whole Mavericks Jenga comes falling down.

It was surprising to see the Mavs and owner Mark Cuban not make a significant move before the deadline at 3:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. The Mavericks had an expiring in Courtney Lee to move and have some assets to dangle as well. They could have made a run at a few veteran players — Marcus Morris or Andre Iguodala — to pad depth and provide some leadership in the locker room.

Instead, the Mavericks will go into the stretch run with the same group, which isn’t bad, but also doesn’t bring as much optimism. Like many teams who didn’t make a move at the deadline, the Mavericks should be active in the buyout market and could add a depth wing or forward. Still, it’s tough to see Dallas competing with the Lakers, Clippers, Rockets and Nuggets of the NBA in the postseason.

We look at some players who find themselves in better fantasy situations.

Andrew Wiggins — Golden State Warriors

There is a ton of usage to fill in the Warriors’ offense. Until Steph Curry returns from his wrist injury, there isn’t going to be many players to create their own offense on Golden State outside of Wiggins. Alec Burks has played a decent scoring role for the Dubs over the last couple months, but he’s been shipped off to the 76ers. Of the healthy players currently on the Warriors’ roster, Wiggins and Eric Paschall are the only guys with a usage rating north of 20%.

Christian Wood — Detroit Pistons

Look out for Wood. He’s going to win yearly leagues and is going to be a DFS monster going forward now that Andre Drummond has been traded from the Pistons to the Cavaliers. For the season, he averages well over a fantasy point per minute and Detroit has been giving Wood extended minutes in recent games. Prior to the deadline, he had back-to-back games scoring over 30 DKFP. Now, Wood figures to move into the starting lineup and play over 30 minutes regularly.

Shabazz Napier — Washington Wizards

The situation for Napier has taken a few twists and turns. He had fantasy value as the starting point guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Then he was traded to the Denver Nuggets, where it appeared his fantasy value would dry up. Finally, he was moved to the Washington Wizards as the Trade Deadline was winding down. Washington dumped Isaiah Thomas, so this sets up Napier to take over as the starting point guard. In 22 starts, he’s averaging 28.35 DKFP and the Wizards always play in high-scoring games. The Wizards are fifth in the league in pace, so it appears that Napier has ultimately found himself in one of the best situations possible for his fantasy value.

Thomas won’t play for the Clippers after being acquired in a trade.

This seems like it could be the end of the road for Isaiah Thomas. The Washington Wizards gave him a chance to start and play extended minutes, but he wasn’t able to make much of the opportunity. The biggest issue with Thomas is his defense. The Wizards were allowing 7.4 more points per 100 possessions with him on the court. When playing with the Boston Celtics he was a liability on defense although Thomas still managed to be a valuable player because he was elite on the offensive end, which he no longer is.
