Daniel Rodriguez faces Gabriel Green in a welterweight bout at UFC on ESPN 9 in Las Vegas on May 30th. We break down how the betting public is picking the fight.

UPDATE 8:09 pm: Daniel Rodriguez defeats Gabriel Green by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). It’s only the second non-stoppage victory in his career, and he should be in the conversation of the Top 15 rankings soon.

A fight with a last-minute replacement is on the card as Daniel Rodriguez faces Gabriel Green in a lightweight bout at UFC on ESPN 9 tonight from Las Vegas. Kevin Holland was originally Rodriguez’s opponent, but was forced to drop out of his second fight in two weeks due to an injury.

Green is the last minute replacement, and unsurprisingly a significant underdog. But his 9-2 record in MMA, with all victories coming by stoppage, means he’s a more than capable fighter. Green hasn’t fought since August of 2018 however, so ring rust is a concern.

Rodriguez is 11-1 as a pro, and won his first UFC fight ever against Tim Means on February 15th. He’s got 10 stoppages from those 11 wins, and could be an up-and-comer for the Top 15 rankings in one of the most loaded divisions in the sport.

So far the odds have held steady for this one, but the odds show what the more interesting battle might be: This fight is only +100 to go over 1.5 rounds. With a pair of stoppage artists, there’s a strong chance this one doesn’t make it to a second round.

Here are the betting splits at DraftKings Sportsbook for Daniel Rodriguez vs. Gabriel Green at UFC on ESPN on May 30th:

Daniel Rodriguez faces replacement option Gabriel Green in a welterweight bout at UFC on ESPN on May 30th.

A fight involving a UFC stalwart and a last-minute replacement is on the card as Daniel Rodriguez takes on Gabriel Green in a lightweight fight at UFC Fight Night on Saturday March 30 in Las Vegas. Kevin Holland was originally Rodriguez’s opponent, but was forced to drop out of his second fight in two weeks due to an injury, so Green is the last minute replacement.

Rodriguez is 11-1 as a pro, and won his first UFC fight ever against Tim Means on February 15th. He’s got 10 stoppages across those 11 wins, and could be an up-and-comer for the Top 15 rankings in one of the most loaded divisions in the sport.

Gabriel is an impressive replacement, with a 9-2 career record and a six-fight stoppage streak. This will be his UFC debut, and “Gifted” has only seen the third round once in his career. No matter who wins, this one should likely not need judges.

UFC 249 kicks off a 12-fight card starting at 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+. We’ve got picks and lineup strategy to help you in the DraftKings 500k Throwdown Contest.

Tonight’s UFC on ESPN 9 card has plenty of ways to get down action, but if you can figure out who is going to win, and how, you can win in DraftKings MMA $600k Throwdown Special, which has a $600k guaranteed prize pool for just a $15 entry.

Each fighter has an assigned salary, and a roster will have six fighters and must not exceed the salary cap of $50,000. With a premium on knockouts and tap outs early, picking some strikers and submitters that can end things in one round or less would be a great way to advance to the top of the table.

Here’s how the scoring works, and notice how heavily it leans towards winning big and early:

Moves

Significant Strikes: +0.5 Pts
Advance: +3 Pts
Takedown: +5 Pts
Reversal/Sweep: +5 Pts
Knockdown: +10 Pts

Fight Conclusion Bonuses

1st Round Win: +90 Pts
2nd Round Win: +70 Pts
3rd Round Win: +45 Pts
4th Round Win: +40 Pts
5th Round Win: +40 Pts
Decision Win: +30 Pts

Here are our best bets for UFC on ESPN 9 tonight at DraftKings:

Daniel Rodriguez ($7,300)

Should be in every single lineup, because the price was set when Kevin Volland was the opponent. With Volland out and replaced by newcomer Gabriel Green, this could be a chance for an easy win. Rodriguez is the biggest male favorite on the card at -335, and has 10 stoppages in his 11 career wins against only one total loss. More value here than anywhere.

Spike Carlyle ($7,600)

He’s a slight underdog on the money line at +110, but if he can get the win the “Alpha Ginger” is likely to do it quickly. He’s 9-1 career, and eight of those wins are by stoppage. He hasn’t even seen the second round in his last three fights, and his only loss was a split decision in 2018. The bonus points on offer for a speedy victory make this one worth the risk.

Mackenzie Dern ($9,300)

She’s struggled with weight issues in the past, but had no problem on the scale yesterday. Dern has four submissions in her seven career wins, and is the biggest moneyline favorite available at -435. She’ll likely put her opponent Hannah Cifers on the mat as much as possible, and can hopefully score some before making her tap. When Dern is in shape she’s very dangerous, and coming off her only career loss to Amanda Ribas she should be focused here.

Daniel Rodriguez faces a replacement fighter at UFC on ESPN 9, with Gabriel Green making his UFC debut. We break down DFS considerations.

UFC on ESPN 9 brings MMA back to Las Vegas for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic broke out in the United States. The 11-fight card is headlined by a welterweight contenders showdown between Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns.

The preliminary card opens just after 6 p.m., and includes a welterweight fight between Daniel Rodriguez and Gabriel Green. If you’re taking part in some UFC daily fantasy sports contests this weekend, this is a curious matchup to say the least.

Rodriguez was originally slated to fight Kevin Holland. However, Holland suffered an injury in training and had to back out. Gabriel Green replaced him in what will be Green’s UFC debut. Green is 9-2 in his pro MMA career, but he has never fought in UFC, and this marks his first fight since August of 2018.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez enters the fight with an 11-1 record and won his UFC debut, a submission win over Tim Means at Fight Night 167 this past February. In the nearly two years since Green last fought, Rodriguez has fought five times.

Rodriguez comes in with a DraftKings DFS price of $7,300, while it is no surprise Green is the lowest priced fighter at $6,800. We have no DFS performance info for Green, but Rodriguez is the second-highest scoring fighter thanks to his second round submission win over Means. He had 49 significant strikes and one knockdown in the victory.

Rodriguez is a sizable favorite at -335 to Green’s +250, and it’s no surprise 87 percent of total bets and 86 percent of total handle are on Rodriguez. There’s an element of uncertainty due to Green’s lack of UFC experience, but Rodriguez offers considerable upside.

Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez were set to square off in a welterweight bout at UFC on ESPN on May 30th, but UFC newcomer Gabriel Green will replace Holland due to injury

Update, May 27 9:39 a.m. May 27th: MMAFighting.com is reporting Gabriel Green will replace Holland at UFC on ESPN May 30th.
We run through where the odds stand midway through the week for UFC on ESPN 9. Quarantillo vs. Carlyle has seen some movement.

UFC on ESPN 8 gets underway at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 30th, and we already have one change in the card. Kevin Holland had to drop out of his scheduled bout with Daniel Rodriguez due to an injury suffered in training.
DraftKings Sportsbook has not yet posted odds on Rodriguez vs. Green, but they have lines for the other ten fights on the card. Most have not seen movement yet since opening earlier in the week, but underdog Spike Carlyle has closed the gap for his bout with Billy Quarantillo. Carlyle opened at +132 to Quarantillo’s -167. As of Wednesday morning, Carlyle is sitting at +120, while Quarantillo is at -155. This is the second UFC fight for each in what appears to be a lightweight fight (but is not described on the UFC website).

According to the UFC President, the fights will return to the UFC’s own facility in Las Vegas in 10 days.

We knew two of the fights the UFC planned on having on May 30th, but we didn’t know where. Now according to Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the card for the last Saturday in May will take place at the UFC’s Apex facility in Las Vegas.

UFC president Dana White told the Review-Journal early Wednesday the organization will hold a May 30 event at its Apex Facility in southwest Las Vegas.

Former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to headline the card in his first fight since losing the belt in March 2019 fight to Kamaru Usman. Woodley will face Gilbert Burns.

There has been no comment from state of Nevada or the Nevada Athletic Commission, with the state beginning to reopen but still encouraging residents to stay home. Dana White is known to often speak out of turn, so we’ll see if the commission says otherwise.

UFC has a card scheduled for May 30th. We break down the latest news on where it might take place.

The UFC has its next event scheduled for May 30th, but for the moment the location is not entirely settled. The organization was planning on holding the event at their APEX facility in Las Vegas, but Nevada currently has a ban on all combat sports.

Following Saturday’s UFC event in Jacksonville, organization president Dana White said Arizona was the likely destination. Arizona’s governor announced last week that the state would invite sports to operate there while their own states are shut down, and White is enthusiastic about the opportunity.
