We go over James Conner’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Steelers Week 8 matchup against the Ravens.

Sunday Update: Two elite run defenses will face off in this game but Conner’s fantasy outlook is good. He’s projected to lead all Steelers with 16.46 points in ESPN leagues. No other Pittsburgh back is projected for more than 4 fantasy points.

It’s not easy for a running back to do much damage against the Ravens defense. But it’s not impossible either. So what should you do with Steelers running back James Conner when these AFC North rivals meet this week?

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers RB James Conner

Conner has 451 yards and four touchdowns so far this season. He had his touchdown streak snapped last week, not finding the end zone for the first time in four games. However, he had a touchdown called back and failed to reel in a pass for an easy score. But he still managed to finish with a respectable 82 yards on 20 carries.

The Ravens aren’t giving up big points to running backs this season. Only one player, Miles Sanders of the Eagles, was able to roll up more than 100 rushing yards. And they’ve allowed just one running back to score a touchdown against them this season, Washington’s Antonio Gibson who had 46 rushing yards and another 82 receiving.

While it may not be Conner’s best shot at a huge game, he’s just too consistent of a performer to leave on the bench. Though you can probably find a better play in DFS since he’s $6,400 in DraftKings leagues this week.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

We go over JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Steelers Week 8 matchup against the Ravens.

Sunday Update: The Claypool hype train hasn’t died down yet. The rookie wideout is expected to compete with Smith-Schuster in Week 8 and is projected for 10.62 fantasy points in ESPN leagues. Smith-Schuster is projected for 12.15 fantasy points. Smith-Schuster has been just fine despite lingering knee pain this season and could be a major factor after notching 14 targets in Week 7.

It can be difficult to get a read on any of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receivers when it comes to fantasy football. Any one of the bunch could go off for a huge game one week, only to be mostly silent the next. So what should you do with JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool this week against the Ravens?

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers WRs JuJu Smith-Schuster, Chase Claypool

After a string of disappointing games, Smith-Schuster was looking more like the receiver we’ve come to know last week. He was targeted 14 times in that game, posting 85 yards on nine catches. While the production numbers don’t quite match the catches, he’s decent play in fantasy because of volume. The problem this week is his matchup with slot cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

Claypool is really one of those boom or bust type players. He could have a game like he did back in Week 5 against the Browns, scoring three receiving and one rushing touchdown. Or, he could wind up with numbers like last week, one catch on one target for -2 yards. What makes him an interesting option in this game is that the Steelers do use him some out of the backfield, and this feels like a game where they’ll have to get a little more creative with their offensive approach. If you’re a gambler, I like a bet on Claypool this week.

Josh Jacobs has delivered incredible performances this season as well as some quiet afternoons. Which version of the Raiders running back will show up this Sunday against the Browns?

Game day update: The weather should benefit Jacobs in this matchup. Wind gusts of nearly 50 mph means the passing games could be ineffective, or at least suppressed to a certain degree. We’ll still see some passing, but look for the Raiders to lean even more on Jacobs. ESPN projects Jacobs to score 18.0 fantasy points in PPR leagues.

The Las Vegas Raiders have gotten off to a 3-3 start and, at times, look like a potential playoff team in a division dominated by the defending-champion Kansas City Chiefs. While their status within the AFC fluctuates on a week-to-week basis, they possess enough talent to overcome even top-shelf opponents.

One of those talented players, running back Josh Jacobs, has become increasingly integral to the performance of the Raiders offense.

Fantasy Football analysis: Raiders RB Josh Jacobs

While Jacobs remains a developing talent, he has already displayed a considerable ceiling as an all-around running back. In his first game of 2020, he delivered 129 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns, one of the biggest outputs of any player this season. That game didn’t prove to be a one-off either, as Jacobs managed an 85-yard, two-touchdown performance against the Kansas City Chiefs just three weeks ago.

However, those matchups in between underscore Jacobs’ downside. While the second-year back doesn’t bear the full responsibility for the comparatively poor production in his other outings — the Raiders have dealt with numerous issues along the offensive line and inconsistencies in the passing game — those games outnumber the good ones so far this year. Accordingly, Jacobs looks more and more like a lottery ticket from a fantasy perspective and Las Vegas’ matchup will have an even greater impact on how the running back performs.

And thus far, the Cleveland Browns have done a commendable job slowing down opposing ground attacks. Through seven games, their defense has allowed less than 69 rushing yards to running backs and averaged one rushing touchdown per outing. The unit has also only yielded one receiving score to running backs. Jacobs has the potential to overcome those impediments, but fantasy managers must still account for them.

Though Jacobs appeared on the Raiders’ injury report this week and only practiced on a limited basis, he will suit up Sunday in Cleveland.

Fantasy Start/Sit Recommendation

Start Jacobs as an RB1 in all formats.

We go over Derrick Henry’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Titans Week 8 matchup against the Bengals.

Sunday Update: Henry is projected to lead Tennessee with 22.81 fantasy points in ESPN leagues. The windy forecast bodes well for the running back, who has yet to go two straight games without crossing the century mark on the ground. Expect Henry to get a healthy helping of touches.

A year after rushing for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is on pace for an even bigger season. The NFL rushing leader with 663 yards, he’s on pace for more than 1,700 yards. While that number might be a stretch overall, Henry is still one of the league’s best running backs and one of the most valuable players in fantasy football.

Fantasy Football analysis: Titans RB Derrick Henry

Henry had one of his worst games of the season last week, but he still managed 75 yards on 20 carries and found the end zone for the fourth week in a row. He’s the centerpiece of Tennessee’s offense, and he’ll get his touches regardless. That, and the fact that he’s really good, makes him a must-start player every week.

This week’s matchup against the Bengals isn’t an easy one. Cincinnati hasn’t let a running back find the end zone since Week 2, which was also the last time they let someone rush for more than 100 yards. But don’t let the matchup scare you away from starting Henry. He always seems to find a way to produce.

We go over Diontae Johnson, James Washington’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Steelers Week 8 matchup against the Ravens.

Sunday Update: The back injury that bothered Johnson ahead of Week 7 has made way for a toe injury, but the wideout was a full participant in practice on Friday after missing Wednesday. James Conner is projected to lead Pittsburgh in fantasy points in ESPN leagues but Johnson is projected to lead all receivers with14.08 fantasy points. Washington has a clean bill of health but is only projected for 4.96 fantasy points.

The Steelers offense will have its hands full this week against the Baltimore Ravens. But with an array of weapons and a list of players who are just too good to bench, there’s still a long list of viable fantasy prospect among that unit. Here’s how to handle wide receivers Diontae Johnson and James Washington this week.

Fantasy Football analysis: Steelers WR Diontae Johnson, James Washington

After missing Week 6 with a toe injury, Johnson returned with a bang last week. He caught nine passes on an astonishing 15 targets for 80 yards and two touchdowns. There is still some concern around his toe. He missed practice on Wednesday, but returned as a full participant on Thursday.

Washington played a nice game filling in for Johnson in Week 6, but last week he was only targeted once, and didn’t manage to come up with the ball. While any Steelers receiver could go off in any given week, Washington’s just too much of a risk in fantasy.

We go over Mike Evans, Scotty Miller’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Bucs Week 8 matchup against the Giants on Monday Night Football.

Sunday Update: Miller is in shape to play after being limited with hip and groin injuries in practice this week. He’ll play an important role behind Evans while Godwin is out. Johnson could have a more significant role than usual and proved that he can come up big when the receiving corps is depleted.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense was cooking last week and have shown signs that they can be one of the best in the league. They’ve had injuries at the wide receiver position, which has made it a little more difficult to get a handle on preferred targets and this week they’ll likely be without Chris Godwin.

Godwin’s expected absence should help Mike Evans, especially after he was more of a decoy than anything else last week against the Raiders, seeing just two targets to Scotty Miller’s and Godwin’s nine each.

Fantasy Football analysis: Bucs WRs Mike Evans, Scotty Miller, Tyler Johnson

The Buccaneers will play on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants, who have been a poor pass defense, ranking 27th in DVOA. But they do have James Bradberry who can shut down a receiver and has often done so this season. The good news for Mike Evans here is that he’s been getting time in the slot whereas Bradberry doesn’t follow receivers into the slot. Bradberry will likely see a combination of Evans, Miller and Johnson.

Tyler Johnson has moved his way ahead of Justin Watson on the depth chart and will be one of the three starters with Godwin out. Even with few opportunities, Johnson has scored a touchdown in his last two games.
We go over Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling ’s fantasy football outlook ahead of the Packers Week 8 matchup against the Vikings.

Game day update: The Green Bay Packers had quite the outing in their first matchup against their divisional rival, but things may be different this time around. With Aaron Jones ruled out, the receivers should have an increased opportunity for targets. Starting DB Holton Hill is out with a foot injury, which is a plus, but it’s worth noting potential wind gusts of 25+ mph.

The Packers will face off against the Vikings in Green Bay this weekend and each of these teams will have to deal with the day’s third contender: the wind. Sustained 25 mph winds with 40 mph gusts are currently in the forecast this weekend, leaving fantasy owners wondering how their quarterbacks and wide receivers may be affected. Where do Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling belong in lineups given the circumstances? We break down the fantasy analysis below.

Fantasy Football analysis: Packers WRs Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Davante Adams had a slow start when he returned from injury to score 12.1 PPR points in Week 6, however he came roaring back to his usual elite form in Week 7, pulling in 13 receptions for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Even if the game was played in the middle of a hurricane, Davante Adams should be in all lineups. He is the clear cut favorite target of Aaron Rodgers, averaging over 14 targets per game in the three full games he has played this season. Wind or no wind, Adams is a set it and forget it WR1.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling seems to be the member of the Packers whose value took the greatest hit with the return of Davante Adams, though he wasn’t doing a ton in Adams’ absence either. Valdes-Scantling averaged only 7.7 points per game over the first six games of the season and is currently the 77th ranked fantasy wide receiver. His most recent performance was his worst as he recorded only one carry for nine yards and failed to catch any of his four targets. You can likely find a better option out there this week and Valdes-Scantling can be left on the waiver wire.

We go over the fantasy football outlooks of Rob Gronkowski and Cameron Brate ahead of the Bucs Week 8 MNF matchup against the Giants.

After losing O.J. Howard for the season, it was Rob Gronkowski who stepped up to fill the void and then some. He started off slow, but returning from a year off and without a full off-season proved to be the main issue for Gronk. He’s not the guy he once was, but dropping from Hall of Famer to “just good” in a strong offense with your old pal Tom Brady throwing you the ball is great in this league right now.

The Buccaneers face the New York Giants on Monday night, who rank 27th in Football Outsiders DVOA against the pass. They have been good against tight ends, but haven’t faced a solid, consistent player at the position all season. And over the last two weeks, they’ve allowed Logan Thomas to post 42 yards and a touchdown and Richard Rodgers to catch six passes for 85 yards. They are susceptible to giving up fantasy points to tight ends even if their overall numbers don’t show it.

Over his last two games, Gronkowski has caught 10-of-16 targets for 140 yards and two touchdowns and that was with Chris Godwin in the mix. If he can see anywhere around the eight targets he’s gotten in each of the last two games, he’s going to get his.

Cameron Brate would need to luck into a touchdown to have any value and he’s only seen two targets over the last two weeks.
