We break down the public betting splits and how the lines have moved for Tulsa and Mississippi State in the Armed Forces Bowl.

In an unforgettable college football season, we will get to see a well-under .500 SEC team in the Mississippi State Bulldogs take on the AAC runner-ups in the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes in the Armed Forces Bowl at 12:00 p.m. ET in Fort Worth, TX.

The Bulldogs (3-7) are coming into the postseason off of a 51-32 victory over the Missouri Tigers on December 19. It was much-needed win for the Bulldogs program who lost three-straight games prior to that contest and has overall struggled to compete in Mike Leach’s first year.

As for the No. 24-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (6-2), they suffered a heart-breaking 27-24 loss to Cincinnati Bearcats in the American Athletic Conference title game. Unlike Mississippi State, Tulsa won six consecutive games to get into the AAC championship game. Over that period of time, the Golden Hurricanes outscored their opponents 187-123.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Point Spread

Tulsa is favored by one point heading into the Armed Forces Bowl, essentially making this a pick’em between both squads. However, the Golden Hurricanes are receiving 65% of the bets and 64% of the handle.

Is the public right?

Yes, the public is correct when it comes to this particular matchup. The Bulldogs have been an absolute dump fire in Mike Leach’s first year. The quarterback play has been inconsistent and they don’t have their best offensive playmaker in running back Kylin Hill. Meanwhile Tulsa has a stout defense that only concedes 20.8 points per game. And they can put up points on the points, averaging 27.3 per game.

Over/Under

The point total for Thursday’s bowl game is set at 44.5. As of now, 78% of the bets and 49% of the handle are siding with the over.

Is the public right?

The public is right once again! As previously mentioned, the Golden Hurricanes can score in bunches and can pickup yards both through the air and ground. The Bulldogs, despite their struggles, can score too as we know what Leach’s Air Raid offense can do. But be aware the weather might play a factor in this one with rainy conditions and 14 mph winds. And Tulsa is without standout linebacker Zaven Collins, who opted out to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Moneyline

The Golden Hurricanes have moneyline odds of -117, with the Bulldogs’ odds coming in at -105. Of the moneyline bets placed for this game, Tulsa is surprisingly only seeing 40% of the bets and 52% of the handle.

Is the public right?

We honestly don’t know what Bulldogs team will see out on the football field. Will they be motivated play today? No one knows. But what he do know is that Tulsa will be looking to show that they can hang with and defeat a Power 5 school.

Armed Forces Bowl: Tulsa vs. Mississippi State

Opening line: Tulsa -2
Current line: Tulsa -1

It’s moving towards MSU, but their motivation is still an issue. We’ll fade the the late cash here and ride with the Golden Hurricane.

We go over how to watch Thursday’s Armed Forces Bowl game between Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Mississippi State online via live stream.

You can watch the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and Mississippi State Bulldogs face off in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl live from the campus of TCU on Thursday, December 31 at 12:00 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN.

Tulsa lost the AAC title game 23-20 in Cincinnati, finishing with a 6-2 record and losses only to Oklahoma State and the Bearcats. They look to be a program on the rise.

The Bulldogs are using this bowl game to get additional practices in following a 3-7 record. Mike Leach is transitioning the team to the Air Raid offense, and all the extra time on the field is helpful.

If you can’t watch this game on TV, you have the option to stream the matchup on WatchESPN or the ESPN app from your mobile device. If you don’t have a cable login, you can get a free trial from YouTube TV, Hulu with Live TV, AT&T TV Now, FuboTV, or Sling TV to stream the Armed Forces Bowl this week.

The game is often a little bit delayed on live streams, but usually, it’s only between 30 and 60 seconds behind the TV broadcast. That can impact you if you’re on Twitter during the game, but otherwise, it’s an easy option.

Tulsa is coming off a near-upset of No. 8 Cincinnati, while Mississippi State just wants to have something positive come from 2020.

On New Year’s Eve the 6-2 Tulsa Golden Hurricane will be looking to cap off their best season in recent history when they go toe-to-toe with the 3-7 Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Armed Forces Bowl from Carter Stadium on the campus of Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

Mississippi State has struggled a lot in Year 1 of the Mike Leach era. The Air Raid offense was fantastic in Week 1 against LSU, but floundered for the vast majority of the campaign. That is until its final regular-season game against Mizzou, where the Bulldogs had their best game of the season scoring over 50 points in the win. Leach’s style is built on pass efficiency, but that’s going to be a hard thing to have against a Golden Hurricane defense that allows under 200 yards per game through the air.

Tulsa has had an outstanding season built on their defense. Linebacker Zaven Collins won the Nagurski Trophy, given to the best defensive player in college football. However, he announced he’s opting out of the game to focus on the NFL Draft, which will leave a big hole in the unit. Still, it’s a group that can get after the football, earning 16 total takeaways this season, including two against No. 8 Cincinnati in the AAC title game. The Golden Hurricane offense is never going to overpower a team like the Bulldogs have been capable of at times this season. Their defense gives them a shot to win, and the offense usually does just enough to get it done.

Game Time/TV Channel/Streaming

You can watch Tulsa vs. Mississippi State in the Armed Forces Bowl on Thursday, December 31 at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN. You can stream it via WatchESPN or the ESPN app with a cable or streaming service login.

Point Spread, Totals, Odds, Trends

Point spread: Tulsa (-2.5) vs Mississippi State
Point Total: 46.5
Money line: Tulsa (-132), Miss St. (+108)

Tulsa tends to keep it close in a win or a loss, but have still found a way to go 7-1 ATS in their last eight games.

The Golden Hurricane are 5-0 ATS in their last five games played in the month of December.

Mississippi State has been less favorable to bettors, going 3-6 ATS in their last nine.

Even with an offense that has the potential to put up massive numbers, the under has hit in seven of the Bulldogs’ last nine games.

The Best Bet

Tulsa for sure wants to be here against an SEC team. Mississippi State? Who knows. But Tulsa can turn you over (2.0 takeaways per game), and Mississippi State has thrown 18 INT’s alone. The talent gap here is wide, but so might be the motivation. Get it down before it gets on the other side of a field goal.

We’ve got an early look at the opening odds for the Armed Forces Bowl game between the Mississippi State Bulldogs and Tulsa Golden Hurricane.

It’s hard to know what to make of the Mississippi State Bulldogs season in the first year under head coach Mike Leach, but it will come to an end in the first game on New Year’s Eve against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the Armed Forces Bowl. The game will kick off at noon ET in Fort Worth, Texas and can be seen on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.

How they got here

Year 1 under Leach had plenty of ups and downs throughout the season. It started with a record-breaking offensive performance in a win over what we thought was a good LSU Tigers team, but the Mississippi State offense went silent after that, losing four in a row before playing much better toward the end of the season for a 3-7 record.

As for Tulsa, it was definitely a successful year with a 6-2 overall record and qualified for the AAC title game where the Golden Hurricane lost 27-24 to Cincinnati. Tulsa’s only loss during the regular season came against Oklahoma State in the season opener, and the Golden Hurricane had a lead in the third quarter of that game.

College football is announcing bowl game matchups and that means we have early odds. We’ll post them as they arrive.

Bowl season is upon us! It’s been a stop and start college football season, but we’ve made it through conference championship weekend and into something that is going to resemble the bowl season.

Numerous schools are electing to stay home from bowl games this year and that has resulted in several bowl games getting canceled. But we do know that for the time being, the New Years Six games and the College Football Playoff will all happen.

What will happen over the next three weeks in college football? No one knows, but it probably won’t be any less wild than the previous 16 weeks. As bowl game matchups are being announced, we’re starting to get point spreads and totals for the games. These numbers start out as a mix of Circa Sports and DraftKings Sportsbook lines. We’ll update as more lines arrive.

The game will take place at the Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. Kickoff is currently scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, December 31st, and the game will air on ESPN and be available via live stream at WatchESPN.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-7) are one of multiple teams under .500 and playing in a bowl game. MSU defeated Missouri 51-32 on Saturday thanks to the play of their defense and quarterback Will Rogers. They intercepted Missouri quarterback Connor Bazelak three times, and Rogers torched the Tigers’ defense for 295 yards, three touchdowns, with just one interception.

24th-ranked Tulsa (6-2) lost 27-24 to the ninth-ranked Cincinnati Bearcats in the AAC championship game on Saturday. The Hurricanes did their best to try to keep Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder from running all over them, but the quarterback still produced 269 passing yards, 83 rushing yards, and two total touchdowns. Offensively Tulsa leaned on their ground game, which had 166 yards and two scores. Running back Corey Taylor II was the game’s leading rusher with 102 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown.

Mike Leach’s Air Raid offense against the grinding style of Cincinnati, one of the nation’s best defensive teams, should make for a fun matchup in Fort Worth on New Year’s Eve.
