There were plenty of bumps in the road, but the Los Angeles Rams were able to hold on in their Divisional round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. They hit Tom Brady in the mouth early and literally, but Brady and company scratched and clawed their way back, only to lose 30-27 on a Matt Gay last second field goal.

The Rams took a decisive 27-3 lead in the third quarter, but an out of character Cooper Kupp fumble set up the Buccaneers for their first touchdown and a chain of events that would end up with the score tied 27-27 with 42 clicks left on the clock. And that’s when the Rams finally pulled themselves together.

Matthew Stafford hit Cooper Kupp for a 20 yard gain and then, with 27 seconds left, Kupp and Stafford connected again for a 40 yard bomb that set Gay up for a 30-yard game winner.

The Rams will host the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday night. The 49ers have beaten the Rams twice this season, but as we know, beating the same team three times in one season is never an easy task. It should be a good one.

The Rams got a big turnover and benefited from the timing of an illegal hit.

The Los Angeles Rams got a huge turnover on downs against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the 12:22 mark of the fourth quarter in the 2022 NFC Divisional Round and barely survived a big penalty.

The Bucs were trailing 27-13 and went for it on fourth down. Tom Brady looked for Mike Evans deep but the pass fell incomplete. Rams safety Eric Weddle hit Evans with a helmet-to-helmet hit and was flagged for unnecessary roughness. However, because the hit happened after the ball hit the ground, it was considered after the play. The Rams took over with a 1st and 10, backed up 15 yards.

You can watch the play here and see how close it was from the ball hitting the ground to Weddle drilling Evans with the illegal hit.

That’s just a brutal beat for 1H over bettors, or a great finish for 1H under bettors.

The old football cliche is that it is a game of inches. On Sunday in the NFC Divisional round matchup between the Rams and Buccaneers, that was never more true. The Rams led 20-3 and were cruising down the field in the closing seconds of the first half. They were likely to convert a field goal at the very least to build on their lead. However, running back Cam Akers lost control of the ball as he was nearing the end zone.

Upon review, the officials ruled he fumbled the ball and the Bucs had a clean recovery.

It cost the Rams, although they still hold a comfortable lead heading into the third quarter. More painfully, however, was the situation for total bettors. The first half over/under was either 23.5 or 24.0 at most sportsbooks, including DraftKings Sportsbook. By fumbling the ball, Akers cost over bettors and saved under bettors. Football and betting are truly games of inches.

Buccaneers QB cuts lip on Von Miller’s helmet

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady was called for unsportsmanlike conduct after taking a hit that gave him a bloody lip. Amazingly, this was Brady’s first unsportsmanlike penalty in his 18 year career. He had an argument, as Von Miller’s helmet did end up cutting Brady’s lip, but there’s no doubt it was still a glancing blow and not targeted at Brady’s head.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will try to extend its title defense for at least one more week on Sunday when hosting the Los Angeles Rams for a Divisional round showdown. The defending Super Bowl champs entered the postseason incredibly banged up and while they are getting some key players back in some areas, they may have to deal with attrition in others.

Here’s a look at Tampa Bay’s injury report and potential inactives ahead of Sunday’s game, with the official list coming out approximately 90 minutes before kickoff.

Bucs inactives/players with injury designation

RT Tristan Wirfs (questionable) - ankle
C Ryan Jensen (questionable) - ankle
CB Sean Murphy-Bunting (questionable) - hamstring
OLB Jason Pierre-Paul (questionable) - personal
WR Cyril Grayson Jr. (questionable) - hamstring
RB Ronald Jones II (ankle) - out
WR Breshad Perriman (hip/abdomen) - out

The impact

The biggest question mark will be the status of Tristan Wirfs and Ryan Jensen on the offensive line. Both linemen were injured in last week’s game against the Eagles and with the specter of facing Aaron Donald, Von Miller, and Leonard Floyd, they’re going to need to find ways to protect Tom Brady.

Ronald Jones II will miss his second straight game but the good news is that starting running back Leonard Fournette has been activated off injured reserve and will play in this one. More good news is that they may also have cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting back at cornerback. This would be the first time since Week 1 that all Bucs defensive starters would be on the field at the same time should he be able to go.

Rapp being out is a blow to the team’s secondary and they’ll have to fortify themselves downfield to avoid deep shots from Tom Brady.

We take a look at the broadcast schedule for the Rams-Bucs Divisional round showdown and who will be calling the game.

Tom Brady is on the road to a possible eighth Super Bowl ring. The next obstacle in the way of Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the star-studded Los Angeles Rams. The two teams will meet in the Divisional round of the 2022 NFL Playoffs on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. ET. The game will be aired on NBC and streamed on Peacock. Play-by-play legend Al Michaels will be on the call with color analyst Cris Collinsworth and sideline reporter Michele Tafoya.

Michaels broke in as a broadcaster back in the 1960s and has been on the mic for some of the most unforgettable moments in sports history, including “The Miracle on Ice” in 1980 and the earthquake-interrupted World Series in 1989. Michaels has been one of the NFL’s most prominent TV voices since earning the play-by-play gig on ABC’s Monday Night Football in 1986. He spent 20 years in that role before moving over to NBC in 2006 to lead its Sunday Night Football broadcast.

Collinsworth has teamed with Michaels on Sunday Night Football since 2009. The former Cincinnati Bengals wideout took the spot of the retired John Madden and has won six Sports Emmys for his work as a color analyst.

Tafoya, a five-time Sports Emmy winner, worked with Michaels as a sideline reporter on Monday Night Football in 2004 and 2005. She has worked for NBC in that capacity since 2011. Besides this weekend’s game, this trio will be on the call for Super Bowl 56 in February. It will mark Tafoya’s final assignment for NBC; the network stated this month that she will depart to pursue other opportunities following the Super Bowl. The 76-year-old Michaels is also in the final year of his NBC contract.

We break down the betting splits for Rams-Bucs in the NFC Divisional round of the 2022 NFL Playoffs.

In the first game on Sunday’s Divisional round slate, the No. 4 seed Los Angeles Rams will take on the No. 2 seed Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.

These two teams played each other in Week 3 of the regular season, where the Rams won 34-24 at SoFi Stadium. Last week, the Buccaneers defeated the Eagles 31-15 in Super Wild Card Weekend, while the Rams took down their divisional foes, the Cardinals 34-11.

So where are sports bettors going as we get closer to game time? Let’s take a look at betting splits for the Rams-Bucs Divisional matchup as of game day. All odds and info were provided by DraftKings Sportsbook.

Rams vs. Buccaneers: Point Spread

The Bucs are 2.5-point favorites. 58% of handle and 53% of bets are on Rams to cover.

Is the public right?

Earlier in the week, the Bucs were three-point favorites, with 55% of the handle on the Rams to cover and 52% of the bets on Tampa Bay. However, we’ve seen that number come down half a point due to the Bucs’ starting offensive linemen Tristan Wirfs and Ryan Jensen both listed as questionable.

Last Sunday, we saw the Eagles’ defensive line take advantage of Tampa Bay’s weakened offensive line, racking up four sacks in the 16-point defeat. The Rams could have the same success with Aaron Donald in the middle and Von Miller and Leonard Floyd on the edge.

When you combine that, along with the Rams’ offense, which is healthier minus Andrew Whitworth, which is a notable loss. Los Angeles should be able to keep this game close late into the fourth quarter.

Over/Under

Total points is installed at 48.0. 65% of handle and 72% of bets are on the over.

Is the public right?

The total dropped by half a point, but the public is still on the right side. We should see points scored by both offenses in this game. When the Rams and Bucs first played earlier this season in Week 3, the total points scored were 58. Last week, Brady and Co. put up 31 points, despite not having Leonard Fournette, Chris Godwin or Antonio Brown.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles put up 34 points last week and seven of those came on a defensive score. The Rams are averaging 25.6 points in their last five games and 26.6 points per game in their last three road games. Odell Beckham Jr., Cooper Kupp, and Van Jefferson should not have any issues with the Bucs’ secondary in this one.

Moneyline

The Bucs are -145 favorites and the Rams are +125 underdogs. 59% of the handle and 57% of total bets are on Rams to win.

Is the public right?

The Bucs were -150 favorites on the moneyline earlier in the week, but the public has been on the same page with the Rams to win. Los Angeles has the playmakers on the defense to make things tough for Brady and the Bucs’ offense. At the same time, we should expect the Rams’ offensive line to get challenged by the Buccaneers’ front seven, which played well in last week’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles.
