UPDATE 10:25 pm: Billy Quarantillo wins by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). It was an action-packed fight, but Quarantillo survived an early bullrush by Carlyle, and wore him down with his ground game.
MMA is back in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 30th with UFC on ESPN 9. The 11-fight card gets underway at 6 p.m. ET, and is headlined by Tyrone Woodley vs. Gilbert Burns in a matchup of welterweight contenders.
The main card will include a fight between Billy Quarantillo and Spike Carlyle that appears to be in the lightweight range, although the UFC website had not made the weight class official prior to weigh-ins.
Both fighters enter on decent win streaks. Quarantillo has won six straight, including his most recent via triangle choke submission over Jacob Kilburn at UFC on ESPN 7 in December of 2019. Quarantillo is 13-2, with five wins by KO/TKO, five by submission, and three by decision. His two losses include one by KO/TKO and one by decision.
Carlyle has won five straight, with his most recent coming via TKO over Aalon Cruz at UFC Fight Night 169 on February 29th of this year. His last three fights have come via stoppage in the first round. He is 9-1, with five wins by way of KO/TKO, three by submission, and one by decision. His lone defeat was a split decision loss to Serob Minasyan at CXF 12 in April 2018l
