The UFC closes out its recent run of Las Vegas Apex events this Saturday, June 27th with UFC on ESPN 12. Following this event, the organization and competing fighters will travel to Fight Island at Abu Dhabi for four events over 16 days. The preliminary card includes a late addition with a women’s strawweight bout between Jinh Yu Frey and Kay Hansen.
This is a bit of an odd addition at this late juncture, but such is the way of UFC fight cards. The belief is this was brought on because Sara McMann’s opponent Aspen Ladd withdrew due to a knee injury, and UFC could not find a replacement.
Both Frey and Hansen have never fought in UFC prior to this bout. Hansen has spent her career with Invicta while Frey has fought a majority of her fights for that promotion. Hansen is 6-3 and coming off back-to-back wins in her last two fights. She has two victories by TKO, three by submission, and one by decision. Frey is 9-4 and has split her last two fights. Her victories include one KO, two submissions, and six decisions.
Weigh-in update: Jinh Yu Frey and Kay Hansen both weighed in at 115.5 pounds.
