UFC is headed to Abu Dhabi and “Fight Island” in two weeks, but before then they have one more Fight Night card at the Las Vegas Apex facility. This Saturday, June 27th, UFC on ESPN 12 airs starting at 5 p.m. ET. The preliminary card includes a featherweight bout between Jordan Griffin and Youssef Zalal.
Griffin enters the fight with an 18-7 record and is coming off his first career UFC victory at Fight Night 169 in February. He defeated T.J. Brown via guillotine choke submission in the second round. He was scheduled to fight Darrick Minner two weeks ago, but that was canceled when Minner dropped out due to illness. Zalal enters the fight with an 8-2 record and is coming off a victory in his UFC debut. He claimed a unanimous decision over Austin Lingo at UFC 247 in February.
These two are particularly interesting given how they win their fights. Together they have combined to win 14 fights by way of submission, compared to seven wins by KO or TKO and five decisions. Suffice to say, there’s a good chance this one is going to the mat in short order.
Weigh-in update: Jordan Griffin weighed in at 145 pounds. Youssef Zalal weighed in at 145.5 pounds.
