The UFC returned to Las Vegas last weekend for an ESPN event, and now we get the first PPV at the organization’s Apex facility since before the pandemic shut it down. UFC 250 is scheduled for this Saturday, June 6th at 6 p.m. ET. The preliminary card gets started just after 6 p.m. on ESPN and the main card will air on ESPN+ as a PPV. The main event features Amanda Nunes defending her featherweight championship against Felicia Spencer.
The preliminary card includes a middleweight bout between Ian Heinisch and Gerald Meerschaert that almost didn’t happen. They were matched up for the card, but earlier this week Heinisch withdrew from the fight. One of his corner men had tested positive for Covid-19, but a subsequent test apparently came up negative and Heinisch was reinserted in the card.
Heinisch is 13-3, but coming off back-to-back unanimous decision losses. He lost to Omari Akhmedov at UFC 245 last December, and to Derek Brunson at UFC 241 in August. Prior to that he had won five straight fights, the last two of which came in UFC.
Meerschaert is a long established veteran with a 31-12 record. He beat Deron Winn via rear-naked choke submission at UFC 248, but had lost three of his previous four fights.
Heinisch opened as a slim favorite before the removal and reinsertion.
