Two UFC newcomers get in the octagon at featherweight in a hastily-made bout when Johnny Munoz takes on Nate Maness tonight at UFC Fight Night on ESPN from Las Vegas. Originally scheduled as Ray Borg vs. Nate Maness, now Munoz has stepped in as a replacement within the last 36 hours.
Maness opens his UFC account with an 11-1 record mostly out of the Hard Rock MMA and TKO Major League MMA. He has six career stoppages, and the 29-year-old from Morganfield, Kentucky goes by the nickname “Mayhem.” Here’s his highlight video, you can make that assessment if it fits.
Munoz is 10-0 and the King of The Cage champion at 135 lbs., moving up to 145 lbs. for this fight. At 27-years-old from Norco, California, he’s got eight stoppages in his career and six of them by submission. He hasn’t fought since a rear-naked choke of Ian King in September of last year, and has been working on his masters degree in the meantime. He was willing to fight on less than two days notice and made weight without an issue.
