Tim Means, Laureano Staropoli, Beneil Dariush all miss weight for UFC Fight Night

The rare double-weight-miss by two fighters scheduled to face each other at UFC Fight Night. And Beneil Dariush comes in over 2 lbs. over for his fight with Scott Holtzman as well.

The rare Spiderman Meme fight has happened, as should-be-welterweights Tim Means and Laureano Staropoli both missed weight for their bout at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Scheduled as the final fight on the preliminary card, Means hit the scales with about 15 minutes left to weigh-in at 172.5 pounds, 1.5 over the limit of 171 for welterweight. Normally that would be a fine where you forfeit a fraction of your purse to your opponent. HOWEVER...

Staropoli got on the scales right behind him and came in at 174.5 pounds, 3.5 over!

This doesn’t happen often, and we’ll see how the UFC President Dana White handles it. He’s been frustrated by weight misses and catchweight fights previously since Covid-19 compressed the schedule, and he might not be happy to have both sides of a bout fail to come in at the limit.

But Twitter didn’t hate the jokes:

Staropoli is a -141 favorite over Means at +114 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Also the first fight on the main card had Beneil Dariush miss for his lightweight bout against Scott Holtzman. Dariush tipped the scales at 158 lbs., two over the limit of 156 pounds in the 155 pound lightweight division. Yes, combat sports are weird.

For the miss he’ll forfeit 20% of his purse to Holtzman, and will be ineligible for all $50,000 fight bonuses issued by UFC President Dana White such as Fight of The Night or Performance of The Night.

Dariush has complained about how the UFC measures weight cuts before, saying that hydration testing should be added to the scale weights as well. He’s said his walking around weight is 175 pounds, but he can make 155 without an issue, and then fight the next day at 170 pounds.

He remains a -190 favorite over Holtzman, the +150 underdog for tomorrow’s bout.
