Anytime “The Notorious MMA” steps in the cage, there will be plenty of eyeballs. And despite there being no championship fight on the card, expect plenty of robust numbers for Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3 this Saturday night at UFC 264 live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The card kicks off with the early preliminaries at 6:15 p.m. ET, the preliminaries at 8:00 p.m., and the main card airing on ESPN+ pay-per-view starting at 10 p.m. ET.
McGregor enters with a 22-5 MMA record, and turns 33 years old a week from Wednesday. He’s been in an UFC octagon just six times since 2015, and is the No. 5 ranked lightweight in the promotion. He lost to Poirier on January 23rd of this year via TKO at 2:32 of the second round, but defeated him in just 106 seconds on September 27th, 2014 by the same method.
Prior to his January stoppage as a -286 favorite, McGregor beat Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in just 40 seconds by TKO, but lost undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov in a lightweight championship fight that turned into a mini-riot in October of 2018.
Poirier has won seven of his last eight bouts, and is ranked No. 1 in the division at lightweight. He’s overall record of 27-6 as a pro MMA fighter, and his loss to Khabib is his only setback in almost five years. 20 of Poirier’s 27 victories are via stoppage, and this should once again set up for an exciting fight with little need for judges to attend.
